Bundesliga Matchday 15 Review: The one where Sargent doesn’t score

Bayern Munich continues winning, Borussia stays unbeaten, and Dusseldorf shows a bit of relegation fight. That and more in Matchday 15 of the Bundeslgia.

Borussia Dortmund, coming off a group phase Champions League win, didn’t lose a step as they faced hopeful Werder Bremen winning 3-1.

For Werder Bremen, it was another defeat away from home in a topsy-turvy start to the fall. Borussia Dortmund didn’t play like a team that’s yet to face defeat in the Bundesliga and yet, goals from Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer with assists from Jadon Sancho and Raphael Guerreiro were more than enough to take the three points.

Bayern Munich has been looking good of late and a visit to Hannover meant a third consecutive win in the league, 4-0, over the Lower Saxony club.

The Bavarians never let their opposition ever have a moment to breathe. Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and David Alaba rounded out a massive win that sets up the end of fall nicely. For the hosts they find themselves now bottom of the league with off the field issues constantly preventing progress on the pitch.

In a battle of two successful Europa League teams, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated the visiting Bayer Leverkusen, 2-1.

For Frankfurt, it was a first win in three after rounding off European play with six wins from six. Goals from Filip Kostic and Danny da Costa meant that the comeback was far from on. For the dominance shown by the Eagles, it was more that the squad rotation was not an issue with another midweek match ahead.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Surprise of the matchday was Hoffenheim versus Borussia Monchengladbach. No goals when the matchup should have provided plenty was a shame, but BMG will feel the sting more as they lost ground on Borussia Dortmund.

RB Leipzig spent their day thrashing Mainz after a rough midweek in Europe. With a 4-1 win, they’ll fancy a visit to Munich and hope to get the three points on the line.

FC Augsburg earned their first point in five matches with a 1-1 draw with Schalke. Both teams needed more and this actually pins back each in a way that looks to be a little bit towards the relegation zone more than anything.

Wolfsburg visit to Nurnberg went as it would when you face the team that has the worst defense in the league. A 2-0 reverse in front of their fans means that they are begging for the winter break to sit down and reorganize.

Fortuna Dusseldorf made the most of the visit from Freiburg. A 2-0 win moves them to 16th in the table and finally no longer within the bottom two. Perhaps there is hope yet for survival.

Stuttgart earned their third victory under new manager Markus Weinzerl. A 2-1 home win over Hertha Berlin has solidified home as a place where points can be earned and bodes well for them to move well away from the relegation scrap.

Timo Werner put in the performance of the month. His two goals and one assist showed a player who is truly reaching heights hitherto unseen.
