Bundesliga Matchday 11: The One Where Bayern Drops to 5th

Der Klassiker moved the table leaders, Plastico jeopardizes another manager, and the relegation candidates all pull upwards in the Bunesliga in Matchday 11.

Borussia Dortmund hosting Bayern Munich is never easy, but down twice BVB roared back and sealed a four point gap at the top of the table heading to the international break winning 3-2.

Bayern took the early lead in the match via Robert Lewandowskiin the first half. While his goal versus his former club will rile the fans, the fight was different in the second half. Blitzing in only the way that BVB have all season, Marco Reus scored his first of his brace to pull level and set the fans off. While Lewandowski scored a second, it was Reus’s second that pulled the momentum far from FCB. Paco Alcacer added his own to finish the match at 3-2. Three points above second place Monchengladbach and seven above Bayern has the Black and Yellow in position to take away the Bundesliga title.

Borussia Monchengladbach visited Werder Bremen knowing that either they win and zoom up or Bremen would and they’d leapfrog them. With a 3-1 win the Foals found themselves in second place, four points above reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Alassane Plea was the man on the scene. His signing for BMG for 20 million Euros seems a bargin. His hat trick seems to be a small price to pay for eight goals from 11 matches while leading the team to second in the Bundesliga. For Werder Bremen it was a missed opportunity in a big match leaving them seventh in the table in a match where they could’ve be level on points with Frankfurt and Munich in fourth and fifth.

“Plastico” is the tag that every Bundesliga team whose history is non-traditionalist is given, Leverkusen and Leipzig was set for fireworks but a 3-0 win for RB Leipzig might change the employment status of one manager.

Heiko Herrlich has not had a good start to the season. Europa League aside, 11 points from 11 in the Bundesliga is not enough for a board at Bayer which has the pharmaceutical money to push for bigger prizes. Leipzig found themselves going third in the table and currently thinking that Julian Naglesmann will be able to play with more money in terms of recruitment next season if they qualify for the Champions League.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga:

Eintracht Frankfurt via a Luka Jovic brace defeated Schalke, 3-0. The result gives the Eagles their fifth league win in six and eighth in nine overall to go fourth in the table. For the Royal Blues, they have the international break to fix things as in the Bundesliga, 10 points from 11 is only a little better than relegation form.

In a derby that only one half of the fans call one, the Lower Saxony Derby between Hannover and Wolfsburg went to the 96ers, 2-1. The win while keeping the victors still in 16th moves the relegation zone closer to the teams currently in safety and sees the Wolves continue to fall down the table.

Hoffenheim’s 2-1 win over FC Augsburg moves the club to sixth in the table all while staying within striking distance of European competition in the spring.

Hertha Berlin traveled to Dusseldorf thinking that with a win they’d stay in the European places, Fortuna however recorded a memorable 4-1 victory instead. This was a rematch of the most recent relegation playoff in which the second division team relegated the 16th place team.

Stuttgart under Markus Weinzerl was seeking a first victory and they finally got in with a 2-0 win away to Nurnberg. Still bottom of the Bundesliga but with nearly two thirds of the season to play much movement will be at stake.

Mainz 05 continue to move up the Bundesliga with their 3-1 away defeat of SC Freburg.
