Colorado Rapids 2-2 Minnesota United
COMMERCE CITY, CO–Colorado extended their unbeaten streak at home to ten matches despite being reduced to ten men in a 2-2 stalemate with Minnesota United–though winless in their last four overall. The Loons’ swoon continues as they are now winless in their last eight league matches and have won just won in their last 19 (1-9-8).
The Rapids took the lead just before halftime as Darren Yapi got on the end of a Keegan Rosenberry cross into the box to put it home on the volley. The lead would last just seven minutes into the second half, though, as an errant back pass by Morgan Whittaker allowed Kelvin Yeboah to get in alone on goal and equalize in the 52nd minute.
Colorado would soon be down a man in the 68th minute after VAR determined that Sayed Abu Farki committed violent conduct when he slapped Michael Boxall across the face. Despite that, the Rapids regained the lead six minutes later when Georgi Minoungou tapped in after Drake Callendar misplayed a cross form Kosi Thompson.
The Rapids had seen leads in their last two home games slip away, and this game proved no exception as they ended up masters of their own demise. An acute and hopeful cross by Yeboah was accidentally knocked in by Loic Williams in the 83rd minute. It was another disappointing result for both teams–the Rapids because they do not consolidate their playoff position which is now ninth, and the Loons because their playoff hopes slip even further away now seven points adrift of the Rapids.
The Rapids are in Portland on Saturday (8:30pm MT, Apple TV), while the Loons host the hottest team in the league in St. Louis CITY SC on Saturday (3:30pm CT, Apple TV).
