Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 LA Galaxy

VANCOUVER, BC–Ryan Gauld became the first Whitecap in the MLS era to reach 50 goals and 50 assists. He got one of each Wednesday night in the Whitecaps’ 3-0 win over LA Galaxy at BC Place–maintaining a three-point lead at the top of the Western Conference table. Galaxy miss out on a chance to move into the playoff places with both San Diego, Real Salt Lake, and Minnesota all losing.

Gauld got assist 50 from a throw-in on the eight minute, Thomas Müller then flicked it to Brian White for the finish. Müller would leave the match with a charley horse in the 27th minute and his status is unknown for Saturday.

Gauld would get goal number 50 in the 57th minute. This was off an errant pass from LA’s Jakob Glesnes. Gauld then made his way to the penalty area and finished past JT Marcinkowski. Bruno Caicedo would add a third from the spot after Rayan Elloumi was fouled inside the box. Marcinkowski, who had six saves on the night, got a hand on the spot kick, but the ball would still go over the line and in. Yohei Takaoka made five sheets with the clean sheet.

The Whitecaps stay home on Sunday to face Austin FC (3:30pm PT, Apple TV). LA Galaxy will host fellow strugglers Seattle on Saturday (7:30pm PT, Apple TV).
