The match began with Rhode Island FC starting from the center circle and immediately progressing the ball into Oaklands defensive third.
Oakland had the first moment of the match in the 4th minute when forward #17 Johnny Rodriguez’s header went just wide of the left post.
RIFC’s first chance came in the 13th minute when Noah Fuson had an unbelievable first touch, trapped the ball out of the air and unleashed a right-footed curler that was saved away by Oakland goalkeeper #20 Paul Blanchette.
RIFC in the 16th minute had 3 consecutive corner-kick. All 3 involved Fuson running short, 2 were played to the backpost and 1 was played short, with nothing coming from any of the efforts.

In the 25th minute, RIFC forwardAlbert Dikwa was taken down in the area, however, the referee decided not to give a penalty. Interesting decision by the center official.
Just two minutes later, Stephen Turnbull had yet another amazing opportunity that led to a corner kick for RIFC.
RIFC’s best chance of the half came entering the 29th minute when Mark Doyle’s close-range effort was deflected away and out for a corner kick. The ensuing corner came to nothing, however, following the catch save by Oakland goalkeeper #20 Paul Blanchette, he was hit by Mark Doyle and went down. The incident led to no cards & led to taunting antics by Blanchette.
Entering the 33rd minute, Oakland took a 1-0 lead.

Following a corner kick delivery by defender #2 Baboucarr Njie, the ball was headed home by defender #15 Neveal Hackshaw.
RIFC’s next chance came in the 35th minute when Marc Ybarra’s free kick delivery was met with a header by Stephen Turnbull and out for a goal kick.
Oakland’s next opportunity came from a free kick delivery entering the 40th minute that was cleared away by Frank Nodarse. The ensuing corner kick resulted in yet another corner kick, which then resulted in a headed clearance.
RIFC had yet another chance entering the 45th minute that led to a chance by Jojea Kwizera being deflected out for a corner kick.
After the initial 45+2 minutes, the match entered halftime with Oakland ahead 1-0.

The second half began with Oakland kicking off from the center circle and elected to build out of the left flank of the back.
RIFC had the first chance of the half when Stephen Turnbull’s breakaway effort was stopped by goalkeeper #20 Paul Blanchette.
RIFC’s Clay Holstad had a massive chance in the 51st minute that went just over the crossbar.
In the 53rd minute, Oakland Roots interim head coach Gavin Glinton made his first change of the match by replacing injured defender #21 Bryan Tamacas with forward #10 Lindo Mfeka.
Just two minutes later, in the 55th minute, RIFC forward #10 Albert Dikwa was issued a yellow card for pushing goalkeeper #20 Paul Blanchette after the goalkeeper thwarted Dikwa from drinking Oakland’s water while a player was down injured.
Less than one minute later, RIFC’s Frank Nodrarse was also issued a yellow card for the same offense due to Blanchette doing the same offense.
RIFC’s next best chance came in the 59th minute after two clear chances on the right flank that were both saved by goalkeeper #20 Paul Blanchette.

In the 69th minute, RIFC head coach Khano Smith made his second change of the match by replacing midfielder Marc Ybarra with defender Morris Duggan.
Less than two minutes later, Oakland Roots interim head coach Gavin Glinton also made his second and third changes by replacing midfielders #2 Baboucarr Njie and #5 Camden Reilly with midfielder #8 Irakoze Donasiyano and forward #11 Trayvone Reid.
In the 71st minute, Oakland Roots defender #15 Neveal Hackshaw was issued a straight red card. Oakland would play the remaining 20 minutes with 10-men.
