Ema Boateng’s late heroics lead New England to second straight win

FOXBOROUGH, MA – The New England Revolution (4-1-10, 13 pts.) were victorious 1-0 over the New York Red Bulls (8-5-4, 29 pts.) in an MLS match on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 29,288.

The team lined up in their regular 4-2-3-1 formation with Aljaž Ivačič starting in net. In the back line was DeJuan Jones (left back), Dave Romney and Xavier Arreaga (center backs) and Nick Lima (right back). In the defensive midfield spots were Mark-Anthony Kaye (left) and Matt Polster (right). Ahead of them in the attacking midfield was Dylan Borrero (left), Carles Gil (central) and Ian Harkes (right). Giacomo Vrioni started the match as the lone striker.

The match kicked off with RBNY starting from the center circle and launching the ball swiftly into New England’s defensive third.

RBNY midfielder #13 Dante Vanzeir had the first chance of the match in the 6th minute, when his effort was met with a simple save by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.

New England’s first chance came in the 10th minute when Ian Harkes’ effort went just wide of the post.

RBNY’s next chance came in the 26th minute when midfielder #8 Frankie Amaya unleashed a long-distance effort that was met with a diving save by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.

The best chance of the half came in the 30th minute for New England when midfielder Carles Gil found Giacomo Vrioni. He took a curled left-footed shot that was met with a fantastic save by goalkeeper #18 Ryan Meara.

Dylan Borrero then had an opportunity in the 43rd minute when his shot hit the side netting and out for a goal kick.

In the 44th minute, RBNY defender #15 Sean Nealis was issued a yellow card.

After the initial 45 minutes, the match entered halftime level at 0-0.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and quickly launching the ball into RBNY’s defensive third.

RBNY had the first chance of the half when midfielder #2 Dennis Gjengaar’s right-footed effort went high and wide over the net.

Entering the 49th minute, drama ensued as forward #11 Elias Manoel took a long-distance shot that was met with a diving stop by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič. The ensuing rebound was taken by midfielder #75 Daniel Edelman. RBNY claimed that Ivačič made contact with Edelman, as he was taken down, but VAR agreed with the center official with a goal kick call.

RBNY head coach Sandro Schwarz made his first chance of the match in the 63rd minute by replacing midfielder #2 Dennis Gjengaar with forward #37 Mohammed Sofo.

In the 64th minute, Revolution midfielder Matt Polster was issued a yellow card for a foul on forward #11 Elias Manoel. Due to this yellow card, Polster is now suspended for next weekend’s match versus Vancouver.

Just 5 minutes later, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by replacing Ian Harkes with Emmanuel Boateng.

New England’s next chance came in the 72nd minute when Dylan Borrero’s right-footed strike was handled by #18 Ryan Meara.

In the 74th minute, RBNY head coach Sandro Schwarz made his second and third changes of the match by replacing forwards #13 Dante Vanzeir and #11 Elias Manoel with forwards #7 Cory Burke and #16 Julian Hall.

Entering the 81st minute, New England took a 1-0 advantage.

Following a cross by midfielder Carles Gil on the right-flank, midfielder Emmanuel Boateng was left wide-open for a back-post one time finish past goalkeeper #18 Ryan Meara.

In the 85th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second change of the match by replacing Dylan Borrero with Jonathan Mensah.

RBNY’s next chance came in the 87th minute when a miscommunication at the back almost trickled by goalkeeper Aljaž  Ivačič.

Just 2 minutes later, Mark-Anthony Kaye took a long-distance shot that was met with a diving stop by goalkeeper #18 Ryan Meara.

Entering the 89th minute, RBNY head coach Sandro Schwarz made his fourth and final change of the match by replacing midfielder #75 Daniel Edelman with defender #42 Omar Valencia.

In the 90+4 minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his third and final change of the match by replacing Mark-Anthony Kaye with Andrew Farrell.

After the 90+5 minutes, New England held on for the 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls.

With the result, the New England Revolution remain in last place in the MLS Eastern Conference but move out of last place in all of MLS.
