Wolverhampton turn on the style to complete convincing victory over King’s Lynn Stars

Parrys International Wolves made the most of their home advantage in the second half of the meeting to secure a 49-41 win at Monmore Green leaving the Stars empty-handed.

Wolverhampton looked to return the favour following a disappointing 55-35 defeat at Adrian Flux Arena last week with Peter Adam’s side left to ponder the absence of no.1 Sam Masters after a disappointing evening.

The Australian rider’s return to the track, however, was exactly what the hosts needed from the off, with Richie Worrall gating in heat 1 before Masters made a smart move on the inside during lap one to secure the first race win of the night.

King’s Lynn pairing Thomas Jorgensen and Jason Edwards soon gave the visitors the lead in the battle of the reserves, with the latter getting the better of young Drew Kemp early doors to come home in second just behind his Danish teammate. Such lead was short-lived, however, with Luke Becker and Ryan Douglas gating in heat 3 to bring home a 5-1 win of their own.

The intriguing story going into the meeting was that of Leon Flint with the Berwick rider coming in on a high after winning the U-19 British Championship last week.

The Wolves no.7 had a difficult start to the affairs after being thrusted into the action early due to Steve Worrall touching the tapes in heat 1. A great ride in heat 4 resulted in his first points of the evening only to be denied the race win thanks to a fantastic ride by Josh Pickering of his own.

Guest rider Kyle Howarth took centre stage in his second ride despite stiff opposition from Douglas. The former Wolverhampton man showed his experience at Monmore with a great ride from the off the gates before bringing home his first win of the night to put his side in front for the second time.

Wolverhampton came into their own as they approached the midpoint of the match, winning three of the four next rides with Steve Worrall, Leon Flint and Luke Becker all stepping up to the plate.

Becker’s performances on track proved to be the turning point of the meeting. Back-to-back wins in the latter stages of the tie highlighted what the American rider is capable of, overtaking his King’s Lynn opposition in nearly identical moves down the inside of the second bend to keep the Stars at arm’s-length.

Alex Brady’s side showed glimpses of quality and fight from the get-go but the result was a foregone conclusion going into the final heat. In what was a difficult night for Drew Kemp, the 19-year-old redeemed himself with a strong ride in heat 14 to pick up three points to become the fifth Wolves winner of the match.

With a point still on the line, King’s Lynn failed to come away with anything for the efforts as Masters completed the perfect return. The Wolves no. 1 gated in heat 15 and kept both Lawson and Howarth at bay for the remaining laps to push his team into third in the SGB Premiership table.

King’s Lynn will look to get back into the points as they welcome table-toppers Ipswich next week while Wolves travel to Sheffield ahead of the midweek action.
