Will George Williams haunt his former team at Magic Weekend?

So far in a Warrington shirt, George Williams has been outstanding and barely put a foot wrong. He gets a chance to take to the field against his former side this Sunday as Warrington Wolves take on Wigan Warriors at the Magic Weekend.

In the third meeting between the two sides in 2021, Wigan and Warrington face each other at St James’ Park on Sunday, in a game where Wolves’ new number 31 will be facing his former employees and boyhood club.

Warrington have come out on top in the last two meetings and that was without the former Grand Final winner, but now with Williams in their side, the Warriors will have their work cut out shutting him out of the game.

Wire have been in relatively decent form as of late and a lot of that is down to the game-winning moments Williams has produced. In his debut, he kicked the winning drop-goal which saw them beat Leeds Rhinos 27-26.

After that moment, all Wolves fans realised why their club invested in him when it was known he’d be coming back to the UK after his stint over in the NRL with the Canberra Raiders.

He has been a clutch player so far and a player Warrington have certainly missed all these years. He is definitely one the Warriors will be looking out for when the two sides come face to face on Sunday. Unless Wigan can close him down successfully, he could be the difference between the two sides on the day as he possesses so much quality.

It will be interesting to see how he reacts to playing against his former team. Every professional just sees it as another game but it does add an extra element to the game, having the former Wigan number six on the field, playing for his old team’s rivals.
