Poland will be looking to get their first victory in the World Cup Qualifying when they face Andorra in Warsaw, Poland.

Paulo Sousa did not envisage his side having such a poor first-half performance that they did against Hungary which ultimately meant they started 2-0 down before they finally woke up and started to show their strengths.

The start that Poland had was abysmal. They simply did not show up and gifted Marco Rossi’s men an easy goal in the sixth minute. Attila Fiola played a defence-splitting ball into the path of Roland Sallai with the striker taking aim at the near post and slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Pinned in their own half, Sousa’s men had to ride the wave of playing defensively and hoping that the Hungarians would make a mistake that would allow them to attack.

In the second-half, it was more of the same which led to Hungary getting their second goal in the 52nd minute. Sallai took the shot on which the Poland defence failed to clear and saw Adam Szalai pounce on the chance.

The number nine took on the shot and was able to double the lead for Rossi’s men as they looked to run away with the match as they were in a comfortable position.

Sousa’s men weren’t down and out as on came Kamil Jozwiak and Krzysztof Piatek to make an impact in the match, and did they do just that.

Jozwiak would cross the ball into the box which found Grzegorz Krychowiak with the midfielder squaring the ball to Piatek with the forward making no mistake to make an instant impact.

A couple of seconds later it would be 2-2. Piotr Zielinski found the run of substitute Jozwiak as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner of Peter Gulacsi.

Willy Orban made it 3-2 in Hungary’s favour after a set-piece found the defender at the back post, and with 12 minutes to go Rossi’s men look to have taken the points.

Robert Lewandowski had the last say as the forward drilled the ball into the top corner of the Hungary goal to equalise and the game finished 3-3.

This weekend’s opponents, Andorra, were unable to get anything out of their midweek fixture against Albania, and in hindsight did not muster enough chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Two shots, one on target with 26% possession of the ball just showed how much they lacked against their opponents.

Ermir Lenjani got the only goal of the game in the 41st minute but it could have been a lot worse if Edoardo Reja’s men took their chances.

Andorra now sit second bottom in Group I, only ahead of San Marino on goal difference, and will look to show some spirit against Poland.

The two sides have only played each other once with the White and Reds coming out victorious in a huge win back in 2012.

Ludovic Obraniak opened the scoring in the 13th minute after a fantastic cross from Maciej Rybus found the attacking midfielder as he smashed the ball into the back of the net.

It would be 2-0 in the 37th minute and Lewandowski would score some goal. Lukasz Piszczek delivered a wonderful ball which the forward chested and lashed a venomous scissor kick with the ball flying into the back of the Andorra net.

Not long after the lead was tripled by Jakub Blaszczykowski. The midfielder was fouled by Ildefons Lima which resulted in a penalty with Poland’s number 16 calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

It was a surprise when Marcin Wasilewski stepped up to take the penalty after Artur Sobiech was brought down in the penalty box, but the defender scored and set the score at a fantastic 4-0 for Poland.

Andorra have been on a huge winless run in World Cup qualifying and the Poles must take their chances and make their visitors this weekend pay.

Paulo Sousa will be expecting nothing but a victory looking at the opponents, their results and their style of play all three points are needed from this encounter.

Reja’s men will want to prove a point and will want to upset the rhythm and the new manager vibe around the Poland camp and a shock win for the Andorran’s will do just that.
