Both teams involved in thrillers in their previous matches gives this game a somewhat tasty affair, as the hosts Wealdstone have conceded the most goals in the league (48) and FC Halifax are the joint fourth top scorers (36).
Last week, the Vanarama National League confirmed the discontinuation of the National League North & South to their shared disappointment.
It was quite the opposite feeling for these two clubs as the National League consulted all the members of the league that it would continue, to their delight.
This decision doesn’t lift the financial burdens as clubs’ funds are continually diminishing nearly one year into the Covid-19 pandemic, but we hope the government won’t leave these clubs hung out to dry, and a collective effort to raise funds is actively sought out immediately.
Wealdstone are struggling for form, with one win in the last five, conceding nine goals and netting a lowly five goals for their efforts.
Having said that, the run has come at a time where they have played three of the top six, so they look to this game against FC Halifax with optimism as the away team haven’t been world-beaters this season. This weekend’s visitors sit 15th in the National League.
FC Halifax with their own patchy form look to put the dagger into the stones as they can boast two uplifting results, that should boost confidence, whilst stopping a two-game slide with a great victory against the promotion bound Torquay. Having watched both teams closely, FC Halifax somewhat relish away days so this tie will be a fascinating one.
Key players
Jacob Mendy – was quiet in the match vs Eastleigh as they marshalled the winger/fullback, but he could be a potential match-winner for the Stones in this fixture.
Jeff King – The combative goal scoring midfielder will need close attention because if he has the chance, he can dictate any game from the middle of the park.
Style of play
Wealdstone – The hosts love to play a 4-3-3 whilst playing out from the back to the front, but sometimes overplay to their own detriment and hubris. A very enigmatic team that likes to attack in droves, but this leaves them woefully exposed at times at the back.
FC Halifax – 4-5-1 for the visitors as the team who don’t mind mixing it with the best of them. Utilising long throws and set pieces and a team spirit like no other allows them to battle with any team.
Prediction
Both teams scoring in a high energized scrappy affair with Wealdstone edging the battle of the lowly clubs three goals to one.
