Nottingham Forest extend their unbeaten run to seven games after two effortless strikes from Sammy Ameobi wrapped up all three points for Chris Hughton’s side.
Ryan Yates put the cherry on top for the Reds by adding a third in a 3-1 victory at the City Ground.
Gary Rowett and his high-pressing Millwall side come away with nothing after a lack-lustre performance from the Lions, Troy Parrott continues his dry streak in front of goal today despite having a number of chances on goal.
Amongst some of today’s star players, Forest midfielder named Cafu, was the heartbeat for the Reds, winning back possession on a number of occasions whilst also creating plenty of chances for Hughton’s side.
Alex Mighten also impressed today on the left wing, linking up well with Yuri Ribeiro. The pair created a number of opportunities together down the left flank, most notably when Mighten put the ball through the legs of Jake Cooper but the winger couldn’t find the back of the net.
Despite dominating ball possession, Millwall failed to make use of their time on the ball. Ryan Woods was pulling all the strings for his side but the ability to put these chances away simply wasn’t there for Rowett’s team.
Forest’s defence were confident on the ball by playing possession out from the back via Scott McKenna and Joe Worrall, this style of play came into their hands as the Millwall frontmen were led to chase after the ball thus tiring them out. Evident in the substitutes that Rowett made, with a number of fresh attacking legs replacing those who had started.
Former Aston Villa forward, Lewis Grabban, found himself in a number of scoring opportunities having come closest early on in the opening few minutes of the first half which forced Bartosz Białkowski into making a good save.
Within the opening 15 minutes of the second half, Millwall looked like they could get something from this game having a good spell in the home side’s half but failed to record a threatening shot on Brice Samba’s goal.
When speaking to media, Hughton declared that his changing room are in very good spirits after this important win. However, the same can’t be said for Gary Rowett’s side who haven’t won in four games.
Forest will look to move on as they now sit 19th, six points above the drop. The Reds will look to continue their fine form against seventh placed Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening. Whilst Millwall travel to Yorkshire as they face up to an out of form Huddersfield.
