The Stags return to League Two action and are back on their travels as they go hunting for three points once more, this time at Boundary Park against Oldham Athletic.
Three straight wins in the league for Nottinghamshire club mean they are looking to continue that streak when they travel to Oldham that sit directly above the amber and blues.
Jordan Bowery continued the goal scoring run against Salford City in Stags’ last league meeting last week.
The striker has been on hot form as he has scored six goals in four games. His confidence must be sky-high because no one would have thought that he would be one of the more consistent players a few weeks ago.
It was another consistent performer that scored the goal to open the scoring for the Stags. George Lapslie gained possession on the edge of the Salford box and fired his effort past Vaclav Hladky into the bottom corner to score his sixth goal of the season in all competitions.
On the half-hour mark, Bowery doubled Mansfield’s lead. James Perch crossed the ball into the Salford box with Jamie Reid flicking the ball on. Harry Charsley got the ball as it bobbled away from him and into the path of Bowery who smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Di’Shon Bernard was able to get one goal back for the Ammies after a corner was whipped in and the ball was not cleared by the Mansfield defence as the Salford defender tapped the ball into the net.
Oldham have drawn their last two league matches and the last time they tasted victory was on December 19th as the Latics beat high-flying Newport County 4-2 at Rodney Parade.
Forest Green welcomed Oldham to the New Lawn in the Latics’ last league encounter before their FA Cup match last weekend.
Rovers opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the match as they looked to get back to winning ways in the league.
Nicky Cadden’s solo effort was able to beat Ian Lawlor in the Oldham goal and gave the Gloucestershire club a first-half lead which ultimately they failed to hold on to.
Zak Dearnley equalised for the Manchester club in added time of the first half and the score remained the same for the rest of the game as very little chances were created throughout which in the end saw the game abandoned.
In the last game between the two sides, Oldham were victorious at Boundary Park against the Stags and the Latics have not actually tasted defeat against Mansfield at their stadium in League Two with the amber and blues picking up their last victory over the Latics at Boundary Park in April 1978 with a 1-0 victory.
Jonny Smith gave the home side the lead after 23 minutes on the cold January evening in Oldham as Tom Hamer added a second for Oldham two minutes before half time.
Gevaro Nepomuceno added a third for the Latics 13 minutes into the second half as the Stags were simply blown away by the sheer dominance of the home side.
Otis Khan was able to get a late consolation goal in added time in the second half but it was simply too little and too late as Mansfield fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Oldham. That same Oldham side that the Stags were able to demolish 6-1 at the One Call Stadium in October.
The newly resurgent Stags side will look to finally get one over against Oldham at Boundary Park with the amber and blues on red hot form going into this game having won three out of three matches in the league.
Oldham have been fantastic away from home but at Boundary Park, they have the second-worst record at home in League Two.
Two wins, one draw and eight losses will fill Mansfield with a lot of confidence with the Stags not having a bad away record this season.
If the amber and blues are able to capitalise on this abysmal home record of Oldham’s then a fourth win in four games could be incoming but the Latics will not give up lightly and will look to return to winning ways in the league.
