A fantastic start from Mick Schumacher and misfortune for Callum Ilott saw Schumacher take a first win this season ahead of Luca Ghiotto in second and Christian Lundgaard in third.

Starting Grid

Callum Ilott qualified on pole for the second time at Monza as Yuki Tsunoda joined him on the first row in second. Luca Ghiotto qualified in third and Christian Lundgaard joined him in fourth.

A qualifying-best for Roy Nissany saw the Israeli driver qualify in fifth with Nikita Mazepin in sixth. Despite losing it at Ascari, Mick Schumacher was able to hold onto seventh with Jahun Daruvala in eighth. Louis Deletraz and Dan Ticktum rounded off the top ten.

Juri Vips qualified P11, one place behind his temporary DAMS teammate, as Felipe Drugovich qualified alongside the Estonian in P12. Nobuharu Matsushita started in P13 with Marino Sato in P14. Marcus Armstrong began in P15 with the Championship leader Robert Shwartzman all the way back in P16.

Guanyu Zhou in P17, Pedro Piquet in P18, Jack Aitken in P19, Giuliano Alesi in P20 with Artem Markelov and Guilherme Samaia in P21 and P22 completed the grid.

And It’s Lights Out And Away We Go!

Mick Schumacher manoeuvred past Nikita Mazepin, Roy Nissany, Luca Ghiotto, Christian Lundgaard and Yuki Tsunoda as he battled his way through the field.

Callum Ilott lead the pack away after lap one with Schumacher in second and Lundgaard up to third as Ilott looked to pull away from Schumacher.

The front five looked to get away from the top hard strategy runner Mazepin as the Russian looked to go on the alternate strategy and to be up near the top by the end of the race.

Tsunoda took the place away from Lundgaard into Turn One as the Japanese driver was able to regain one place that he lost at the start.

Lundgaard reclaimed third on lap six after he went three-wide into Turn One with Ghiotto and Tsunoda. Ghiotto went off the track after he was left no space. Tsunoda was able to get past the ART driver and back through into third.

After ten laps of intense action, Ilott led away from Schumacher with Tsunoda in third. Ghiotto was positioned in fourth, Ticktum in fifth, Nissany in sixth, Mazepin in seventh, Daruvala in eighth, Zhou in ninth and Vips in tenth.

Ilott stalled the car in the pit-lane after the race leader decided to change his red-worn soft tyres onto the medium tyres which saw him lose the net lead.

At the half-way point of the race, Ghiotto led his home race as Ticktum followed the Italian in second and Zhou in third. Jahun Daruvala sat in fourth, Nissany in fifth, Juri Vips in sixth, Nobuharu Matsushita in seventh, Artem Markelov in eighth, Felipe Drugovich in ninth and Jack Aitken in tenth.

Ghiotto gave away the lead as he went into the pits as the Italian dropped behind Schumacher and Lundgaard going back on track in a net third place.

Mazepin looked to have an engine problem as the Hitech driver went into Prabolica but found a way to restart his car quickly and efficiently.

Ilott on tyres that were up to temperature was able to get past his teammate as Zhou came out of the pits on soft tyres and aimed to attack with 12 laps to go.

Vips was the last driver to pit as he released Schumacher into the lead with Lundgaard in second and Ghiotto in third in what would be a fantastic result for the Italian.

Marcus Armstong was left helpless as Ilott swooped past the ART driver as the second-placed driver in the Driver’s Championship looked to make progress late in the race.

The Championship leader Robert Shwartzman was completely dispatched by his Championship rival as Ilott moved up into sixth.

Zhou and Ilott got to work as Zhou slotted past Shwartzman and Ilott moved past Louis Deletraz as the Uni-Virtuosi drivers caught up the lead pack on two different strategies.

The home hero, Ghiotto got passed Lundgaard as he reeled the ART driver and up to second place into Turn One on lap 28.

Zhou with a compound advantage moved ahead of his Uni-Virtuosi teammate and up to fifth place.
