Yuki Tsunoda dedicated Belgian Grand Prix win to Anthoine Hubert and said: “The team has made me a better driver” after his second win this season.
Speaking exclusively to Prost International’s Adrian Kita, race winner Yuki Tsunoda and third-place finisher Mick Schumacher spoke after the 2020 F2 Belgian Grand Prix Feature Race.
Question for Yuki Tsunoda- A strong race from yourself Yuki with a lot of high adrenaline stuff between yourself and Nikita Mazepin. The win propels you into third in the Driver’s Championship. How important was the race win for you and the Carlin team?
“I am very suprised that at this stage I am third in the Championship but also it is not down to my performances but also the team has made me a lot better since driving in Formula 2.”
“Since the pre-season testing in Bahrain, they have given me a lot of data and have given me a lot of power to become a better driver in qualifying and also throughout the race.”
“I am also really happy to drive for Carlin and I’m excited to race with them and looking forward to fighting with them for the Championship this year.”
Question for Mick Schumacher- Another stellar third-place finish. How important was it to get through the field and what do you think of the overall outcome of the race?
“Definetely it was a positive finish with a P3 finish and a good amount of points for us.”
“It was really important to get passed as many people as possible at the beginning because obviously after you are trying to manage the tyres and that’s when the overtaking gets really difficult.”
“At the beginning of the race, I got myseld up to P4 and then Nikita [Mazepin] was able to get past Nobu [Matsushita] and so was I.”
“This meant that he had cleaner air for longer but in general I think it is important to make up as many positions as possible in the beginning and trying to manage your tyres after that.”
