Bundesliga matchday 14 review: Real Klassiker won by Foals

0

Bayern given dose of reality, BVB return to top four, relegation six pointers, and more in Matchday 14.

Bayern Munich v Borussia Monchengladbach was the original Klassiker and a 2-1 result sees Bayern out of the top four and Gladbach clearly at the top.

This is the moment that the rest of the Bundesliga will think, “We can take points off Bayern!” Stats wise, Bayern was dominant creating chances and bossing play. Results aren’t won by stats and quite simply a bad tackle by Javi Martinez VERY late in the second-half meant a second yellow card and a penalty for the Foals. The title race is currently wide open.

Borussia Dortmund knew that the match of the week could benefit them in more ways than one and in a sharp all black shirt showed via 5-0 over Dusseldorf that they are back heading towards the top of the table.

Borussia has European football to enjoy come spring time, but it is the Bundesliga title they desire. After a little shaky moment, they have been roaring into life. Dusseldorf NEVER stood a chance and all the attacks seemed they might hit pay dirt. BVB will not let Gladbach or RB Leipzig run after the title by themselves and the match in two weeks vs. Leipzig take on massive permutations.

RB Leipzig and Julian Naglesmann have been proving that they belong in the top of Europe and the Bundesliga after dispatching Hoffenheim 3-1.

Hoffenheim have done well after a rough start, but it is more that Leipzig and their young team is the best up and coming team in Europe, which scares the Bundesliga establishment. The average age of the squad is nearly the youngest in the UEFA Champions League and they ran away with their group to be group winners. With BVB coming up, they might be able to mount their best title challenge yet.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Jurgen Klinsmann’s start at Hertha was bright as they earned a 2-2 draw with Eintracht after a early two goal lead.

SC Freiburg 1-0 win over Wolfsburg really sets the Wolves back as they looked to move up in the league while earning knockout UEFA competition in the Spring.

FC Augsburg earned another victory against relegation contenders Mainz, 2-1, each will be happy that the cellar is so bad at the present moment.

Bayer Leverkusen had a lot of excitement as they defeated Schalke, 2-1 to move above Bayern in the table, but the week’s excitement was stifled by midweek sadness as they only made it through to the Europa League.

Union Berlin has really established themselves as a club able to survive the Bundesliga as they defeated FC Koln, 2-1, and earned their 19th point on the season.

Werder Bremen is a big club, but on hard times as again they fell to defeat only to come at home to bottom Paderborn, 1-0.

Player of the Week

Ramy Bensebaini two goals vs. Bayern for the win to stay top was a moment for the Foals fans to remember.
