West Ham denied men’s fixture change to allow fans to watch women’s FA Cup final

West Ham have not been allowed to change the kick-off time of their final home game of the 2018/19 Premier League season against Southampton, in order to allow fans enough time to make it to Wembley to see West Ham Women face Manchester City Women in the FA Cup Final.

The Hammers play Southampton at the London Stadium at 3pm on Saturday 4th May and had hoped to get the fixture moved to 12:30pm so that fans could attend the Women’s FA Cup Final at 5:30pm, later on that same day.

Unfortunately, the request has been turned down by the Premier League, citing logistical constraints. It was felt that moving the match would not be possible due to the potential inconvenience caused to supporters who had already planned their journeys and purchased tickets.

West Ham Women are in their first full season as a fully professional club. They beat Reading 4-3 in a dramatic semi-final to secure their opportunity to take on Man City in the final and potentially win silverware to end their first campaign on a high.

Matt Beard’s side are currently seventh out of 11 teams in the WSL. They have won six of their 18 games, drawn two and lost 10.

Winning the FA Cup would be a remarkable achievement for the club and it is a shame that some West Ham fans won’t be able to see their women’s team in action at Wembley.
