In the first game of the week, Sevilla cruised into the last 16 with a 2-0 win at home to Lazio. Already leading 1-0 from the first leg, goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Pablo Sarabia helped put the tie to bed. However, it was not all positive for the Spanish side as Franco Vazquez was sent off after receiving a second yellow.

Frustration was also becoming evident in the Lazio players as tempers began to boil over when Adam Marusic was given a straight red card for an elbow, reducing their numerical advantage.

Fellow La Liga side Valencia progressed with 3-0 aggregate win against Celtic. With a 2-0 lead already established at Celtic Park, Valencia returned home with Kevin Gameiro coming off the bench and getting the only goal of the game, putting an end Celtic’s European adventure for this season.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb ran riot at home to Viktoria Plzen in a 3-0 win. To add insult to injury, Plzen were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute, with David Limbersky seeing red.

In a high scoring tie, Eintracht Frankfurt earned a 4-1 win at home to Shakhtar Donetsk in a 6-3 aggregate win. A Sebastian Haller double inspired the German side to a conclusive win, eliminating the Ukrainian Champions.

Red Bull Salzburg put their name in their hat for the last 16 with a 4-0 win at home to Club Brugge. A double from Patson Daka before half time helped the Austrian side run out 5-2 winners on aggregate.

In a tight and tense affair, Villarreal edged out Sporting Lisbon in a 2-1 aggregate win. Despite Bruno Fernandes putting the Portugese side ahead on the stroke of half time, they were reduced to ten men not long after as Jefferson Nascimento was shown red. The numerical superiority eventually showed in the 80th minute when a Pablo Fornals shot from outside the box proved decisive for the Yellow Submarine.

Zenit triumphed against Fenerbahce as they overturned a 1-0 deficit from the first leg. Two goals from Sardar Azmoun were crucial in a 3-1 home win.

After a wave of criticism from the first leg in Belarus, Arsenal came back from a 1-0 loss in the previous match to hit BATE Borisov for three at the Emirates. An own goal and headers from centre halves Shkrodran Mustafi and Sokratis ensured Arsenal avoided an embarrassing exit from the Europa League.

Krasnador caused the shock of the last 32, dumping out Bayer Leverkusen on away goals. Heading to Germany all square after a goalless draw in the first leg, a goal in the 84th minute from Magomed Suleymanov opened the scoring in the tie and got that all important away goal. Despite Bayer Leverkusen equalising three minutes later, the Russian side managed to hold on and can look ahead to the next round.

Inter Milan welcomed Rapid Wien to the San Siro with a 1-0 lead from the first leg. However, once the pleasantries were out the way, Inter Milan blitzed Rapid Wien, with Ivan Perisic getting in on the action in what was a 4-0 drubbing.

The first leg proved decisive in the fixture between Benfica and Galatasary after a goalless draw in the second. Heading back home with a 2-1 lead, Benfica managed to see the game and the tie out without any hiccups.

After enduring a tough few weeks at Stamford Bridge with his job seemingly hanging by a thread, the fixture against Malmo gave Maurizio Sarri some welcomed relief as the Blues romped to a  5-1 aggregate win. Goals from Olivier Giroud, Ross Barkley and Callum Hudson-Odoi put a smile back on the home supporters faces as they ran out 3-0 winners in the second leg.

The fourty-four time Greek champions Olympiakos were edged out by Dynamo Kiev in a 3-2 aggregate loss. A goal from Fran Sol on the half hour mark for Kiev was enough to scrape through in the second leg.

It seemed all the action was in the second leg in the tie between Genk and Slavia Prague. After a goalless draw in the Czech Republic, Slavia Prague made the trip to Belgium in what was expected to be an uphill battle. Yet surprisingly, Slavia Prague recovered from a early 10th minute goal for Genk to dominate the match in a convincing 4-1 win.

In an entertaining match-up, Rennes were the eventual winners in a 6-4 aggregate win against Spanish side, Real Betis. Former Watford loanee Mbaye Niang sealed the tie in the 94th minute, capping off an excellent 3-1 away win for Rennes in the second leg.

The draw for the next round takes place on Friday at 12:00 GMT
