Nathan Jones has been appointed the new manager of Stoke City. He takes over from Gary Rowett who was sacked after a run of disappointing results.

The Stoke website announced the deal:

“The 45-year-old Welshman takes up the reins at the bet365 Stadium after the Potters agreed a compensation package with his former club Luton Town.

“Jones enjoyed great success at Luton with a brand of expansive football. Last season he guided them to promotion from League Two and they currently sit second in the League One table.

“John Coates and Peter Coates (joint chairmen of Stoke) said: “Nathan is an incredibly driven and passionate individual and we are delighted to have secured his services for Stoke City.”

His now former employers Luton tweeted:

“We wish Nathan every success in his future career and would like to thank him for his service. Further announcements on his replacement will be made in due course.”

Before taking over at Luton, Jones managed Brighton in the Championship as assistant head coach under Oscar Garcia and first-team coach under both Sami Hyypia and Chris Hughton.

He also had a spell working alongside Gareth Southgate during his spell in charge of the England Under-21 side.

Stoke are currently 14th in the Championship table but had failed to score in their last three league matches. Prior to that, they were unbeaten in ten games, six of which had been draws.

His first game will be away to Brentford on Saturday.
