Prost Amerika is delighted to announce that it will launch its World Cup coverage by welcoming back Seattle soccer writing’s favourite son, Jose Romero.

Jose Romero to Preview Mexico's Chances

Jose was the Sounders and soccer correspondent of the Seattle Times in 2009 and helped educate and inform many thousands of new fans, and old alike, as they took the journey with him in Seattle’s inaugural year in Major League Soccer.

He is now covering the baseball beat in Arizona, but we are delighted to announce that we have persuaded him to come back to his three biggest loves, Seattle, football and the Mexican national side.

Jose will be the first guest writer to preview each of the World Cup groups and he will be giving us his outlook on Group A which includes Mexico, hosts South Africa, France and Uruguay.

We will have other guest contributors who are experts in their fields, who we will announce nearer the time. But until then we are happy to welcome Jose back to the Seattle soccer community and wish him a very warm ‘bienvenido de vuelta a casa.’

Jose last featured in Seattle when he was a guest on an emotional edition of the Radio Sounders show where he talked about his year covering the new franchise in Seattle.

  1. I can preview that group real quick for ya:
    1. France
    2. Uruguay
    3. Mexico
    4. South Africa

  2. Here is a preview. Mexico and Uruguay go thru. France doesn’t even deserve to be in the tournament with the cheat Thiery Henry (soon to be in the MLS) and his hand ball victory over Ireland. South Africa unfortunately doesn’t have the manpower to move on.

  3. Two guys seem absolutely certain in their predictions, yet they disagree with each other.

For what my opinion may be worth, I think it may be France and Mexico. Let’s see what Jose has to say.

Latest: He agrees with one of us. Stay tuned for start of our World Cup coverage tomorrow.

  4. Thierry Henry the cheat? Well, yes he did do it, but look back at Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ maneuver. Henry is hardly unique in this. I even saw Leo Messi do the same thing recently. Went up for a header and put his hand up to strike the ball into the net. Best footballer in the world – you would think he wouldn’t need to resort to such things. I guess our human/monkey instinct to use our hands is pretty hard-wired and impossible to resist in the end.

    Henry is in good company…..
