Inter Miami 3-1 Seattle Sounders FC

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL–Inter Miami gained some semblance of revenge on Seattle Sounders FC from the Leagues Cup Final on August 31st with a 3-1 win in league play despite missing a number of players to injury and suspension. Inter Miami are now in fifth in the Eastern Conference table, just one point behind the top four with three matches in hand on the top four. Seattle remains fourth in the West, but just one point clear of LAFC who has two matches in hand on the Sounders.

Two players not missing for the Herons were Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. They would combine on the first goal in the 12th minute with Messi finding Alba in space and the latter shooting it by Stefan Frei. The two would switch roles in the 41st minute after Yannick Bright forced a turnover in midfield. It would be Alba finding Messi making a run and the latter would get the ball past Frei again.

Ina Fray made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute heading in a corner from Rodrigo De Paul. Obed Vargas would get what turned out to be a consolation goal for the Sounders, but this would be Miami’s night as the Herons look to climb back up the Eastern Conference table. The Herons host DC United on Saturday at Chase Stadium (7:30pm ET, Apple TV) while the Sounders will look to rebound Sunday at Austin FC (4pm PT, Apple TV).
