SMITHFIELD, RI– Rhode Island FC was victorious 2-1 over USL League One side Portland Hearts of Pine on Tuesday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Franklin Athletic Complex.

The match kicked off with Rhode Island FC starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into Portland’s right flank.

Rhode Island had the first chance of the match when Frank Nodarse’s cross in the second minute found the foot of Joe Brito and was saved by goalkeeper Hunter Morse.

Midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson found midfielder Joe Brito on the left flank. He then played a delivery to the back post to find Clay Holstad for the finish

In the 36th minute, Portland midfielder Patrick Langlois was issued a yellow card.

Following a freekick, the ball was poorly cleared and fell kindly for Frank Nodarse for the volley finish to make it 2-0.

In the 45+3 minute, RIFC midfielder Aldair Sanchez was issued a yellow card.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with Rhode Island ahead 2-0.

Forward Titus Washington had a shot on the left flank that snuck past Jackson Lee to make it 2-1.

In the 68th minute, Rhode Island head coach Khano Smith made his second change of the match by replacing JJ Williams with Noah Fuson.

In the 72nd minute, Portland head coach Bobby Murphy made his second and third change of the match by replacing Walter Varela & Oliver Wright with Nathaniel James & Evan Southern.

RIFC’s next chance came in the 75th minute when a delivery into the box was headed on by Karifa Yao and saved by goalkeeper Hunter Morse.

Less than two minutes later, in the 78th minute, Rhode Island defender Karifa Yao was issued a second yellow card. Rhode Island would play the remainder of the match with 10 men.

In the 82nd minute, Rhode Island head coach Khano Smith made his final two changes of the match by replacing Clay Holstad & Joe Brito with Rio Hope-Gund & Jojea Kwizera.

In the 87th minute, Portland midfielder Mikey Lopez was issued his second yellow card. Portland would play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
