The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and decided to build out of the match to begin the match.
NYCFC had the first moment of the match when their corner kick delivery in the 8th minute led to a header by midfielder Keaton Parks that then led to a spectacular diving save by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.
New England’s first chance came in the 12th minute when a delivery by Carles Gil was met with a header by Will Sands which was then caught by goalkeeper Matt Freese.

Following a delivery into the area by defender Brandon Bye, the ball was deflected off of New York City FC defender Thiago Martins and into his own net to give New England their first goal of the season.
In the 29th minute, NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen was forced to make his first change of the match by replacing defender Nico Cavallo with defender Birk Risa.

Midfielder Hannes Wolf managed to slot the ball into space to find forward Julián Fernández entering the box. His right-footed shot slotted into the bottom left corner to level the scoreline at 1-1.
New England’s next chance came in the 40th minute when Carles Gil took on 3 defenders and then the ball fell kindly for forward Ignatius Ganago. His effort was met with a save by goalkeeper Matt Freese.
After 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 1-1.

NYCFC had the first chance of the second half in the 59th minute when Jonny Shore’s effort was sent wide of the net.
In the 61st minute, NYCFC midfielder Jonny Shore was issued a yellow card for a foul on Maxi Urruti.
NYCFC had the next chance of the match when forward Alonso Martínez sent Brandon Bye and Brayan Ceballos sliding and unleashed a right-footed shot that just missed the net.
In the 66th minute, NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen made his second and third changes of the match by replacing midfielders Jonny Shore and Julián Fernández with defender Strahinja Tanasijević and forward Agustín Ojeda.

Following a shot in the box by Keaton Parks, which was met with a spectacular save by Aljaž Ivačič. The ball then deflected up in the air towards Alonso Martínez at the back post, who then elected for a scissor kick and slotted the ball into the net to gain the lead for NYCFC.
NYCFC’s next chance came from Maxi Morales in the 70th minute, however, he sent his effort wide of the net.
In the 71st minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by replacing forward Maxi Urruti with forward Luca Langoni.
In the 76th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second and third change of the match by replacing midfielder Matt Polster and defender Will Sands with midfielder Noel Buck and defender Ilay Feingold.

In the 81st minute, NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen made his fourth and final change of the match by replacing midfielder Hannes Wolf with forward Mounsef Bakrar.
New England’s next best chance came entering the 82nd minute when Ignatius Ganago’s effort across the goal mouth was met with a save by Matt Freese.
In the 85th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his fourth and final change of the match by replacing midfielder Alhassan Yusuf with forward Luis Diaz.
In the 90th minute, NYCFC midfielder Keaton Parks was issued a yellow card for thwarting a Revolution counterattack.
NYCFC’s next chance came entering the 91st minute when Agustín Ojeda’s effort went just wide of the net.
In the 90+4 minute, Revolution defender Ilay Feingold was issued a yellow card.
After 90+6 minutes, NYCFC held onto their lead and defeated the New England Revolution by the score 2-1.
