Revolution II suffer 9th straight loss, Fall 2-1 to Carolina Core

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (4-3-15, 17 pts.) were defeated 2-1 versus Carolina Core FC (7-6-3, 32 pts.) on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET. at South Carolina United FC BB&T Soccer Complex in Irmo, South Carolina.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with goalkeeper JD Gunn starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Malcolm Fry, (center backs) Eric Klein and Sage Kinner along with (right back) Colby Quiñones. The defensive midfield roles were manned by Patrick Leal (left), JaVaun Mussenden (right). The advanced midfielder roles were manned by Joshua Bolma (left), Jack Panayotou (central) and Alex Monis (right). Marcos Dias started the match as the lone striker.

First team players Jack Panayotou, Malcolm Fry and Joshua Bolma started the match today.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and building out of the back to begin the match.

In the 8th minute, Revolution II defender Javaun Mussenden was issued a yellow card.

Entering the 15th minute, New England gained the early advantage.

Midfielder Jack Panayotou slid the ball forward to find forward Alex Monis for the 1v1 finish to make it 1-0 to New England.

In the 2oth minute, Revolution II defender Javaun Mussenden was issued a second yellow card. New England would play the remaining 70 minutes with 10-men.

Carolina’s first chance came in the 27th minute when a delivery into the area was found by defender #2 Daniel Chica. His header went just wide of the net.

Just two minutes later, forward #15 David Polanco’s long distant effort led to a diving save by JD Gunn.

In the 37th minute, Revolution II defender Eric Klein was issued a yellow card.

The ensuing freekick by Carolina went under the wall, fell kindly for forward #15 David Polanco, who unleashed a rocket of a shot from close range that was unbelievably saved by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

Carolina’s last chance of the half came from a shot on the right side by midfielder #14 Jathan Juarez that led to a save by JD Gunn.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 1-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Carolina head coach Roy Lassiter made his first two changes of the match by replacing midfielders #12 Msunguchi Charles & #22 Cristian Gregoire with midfielder #21 Derek Cuevas and forward #13 Joshua Rodríguez.

The second half kicked off with Carolina starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into New England’s defensive third.

New England’s first chance of the second half came from Alex Monis in the 53rd minute when his shot forced a save by goalkeeper #98 Alexander Sutton.

in the 65th minute, Carolina head coach Roy Lassiter made his third and fourth changes of the match by replacing forward #15 David Polanco and midfielder #29 Santiago Cambindo with forward #7 Yekeson Subah and midfielder #68 Ozzie Ramos.

Less than one minute later, Revolution II head coach Riche Williams made his first change of the match by replacing Alex Monis with Gevork Diarbian.

Carolina’s next major chance came from a long-distant strike from midfielder #68 Ozzie Ramos that forced a save by goalkeeper JD Gunn, his sixth of the game.

In the 77th minute, Revolution II head coach Riche Williams made his second change of the match by replacing Sage Kinner with Lucas Maciel.

Just four minutes later, Carolina head coach Roy Lassiter made his fifth change of the match by replacing midfielder #10 Jacob Evans with midfielder #11 Luis Lugo.

Entering the 85th minute, Carolina leveled the scoreline.

Following a cross to the right flank by #68 Ozzie Ramos, the ball fell for midfielder #21 Derek Cuevas, who headed down the right flank for forward #24 Facundo Canete to unleash a close-range right-footed strike past JD Gunn to level the scoreline 1-1.

In the 90th minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his final two changes by replacing Colby Quinones and Malcolm Fry with DaMario McIntosh & Moshtaba Alhasnawi.

Entering the 90+1 minute, Carolina took the lead.

Midfielder #10 Jacob Evans sent the ball into the area to find forward#24 Facundo Canete for his second goal of the match, this time a header, to make it 2-1 to Carolina.

After the 90+7 minutes, the match concluded with Carolina winning the match 2-1.

With the result, New England remain in 15th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings. They have the worst record in the league (29 teams in MLS NEXT Pro).

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (4-3-15, 17 pts.) return home to face Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire FC II (8-7-7, 36 pts.). The match will kick off at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, August 31st.
