Ji So-Yun to depart Chelsea at season’s end

It has been announced that Ji So-Yun will leave Chelsea at the end of the current campaign.

Ji joined Chelsea in 2013 following a spell in Japan and has enjoyed a highly successful eight years in West London, scoring plenty of goals in a trophy-laden spell.

The South-Korean’s contract is up at the end of the season and the midfielder is set to return to her homeland where say may continue her career.

Ji has accumulated four league titles, two FA Cups, two League Cups and a Community Shield during her time at the Blues. She was also part of the side that reached the Champions League final last season before losing out to Barcelona.

Ji could add to this haul of medals before her departure as Chelsea are the favourites to win another league title while they will contest the FA Cup final against Manchester City in two weeks’ time.

Unfortunately, European success will have eluded the 31-year-old as Chelsea have already been knocked out of this season’s Champions League.

Ji has scored 68 times in her Chelsea career which is a terrific contribution from a midfielder. She may have another one or two in her locker before the season’s end which could prove vital to Chelsea’s trophy-winning aspirations.

Ji was the first South Korean to play in the Women’s Super League and finished with a runner-up medal in the 2022 Asian Cup with her country.

A former PFA player of the year and WSL player of the year, Ji was an incredibly popular member of the Chelsea squad and will be sure to get a well-deserved send-off when Chelsea host Manchester United in their final league game of the season.
