Hasselbaink’s resurgent Brewers face mid-table MK Dons as Burton look to extend their sublime run-in form

After being held to a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road against Blackpool on Tuesday, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side extended their unbeaten run to seven, last seeing defeat at the Pirelli to Sunderland back in February.

Now the Brewers face the task of MK Dons who’ll look to put a halt to Burton’s exhilarating form.

Whilst also keeping a clean sheet in four of those seven matches, a sinking ship has seemed to have solved such drastic issues coming into the latter stages of the season. Having conceded 57 goals in just 35 matches, the Brewers have got the ship sailing in the right direction. Boasting League One’s 20th-best defence, Hasselbaink’s philosophy is clearly having an impact.

In what was a dire start to the season for Burton Albion, relegation appeared like a grim reaper for the Staffordshire outfit. However, with the departure of Nigel Clough and the reappointment of former boss, Hasselbaink, a spark of hope had been ignited at the Pirelli.

Since his return to the Brewers, the Dutchman secured promotion to League One in what was such a short tenure at the club. Hasselbaink then left Burton when they were top of the league for Championship side, Queens Park Rangers.

With plenty of hope upon the horizon for supporters of Burton Albion and the fears of relegation now looking to be long in the past, the only way is up for the Brewers, who’ll look to elongate their form with the visit of Russell Martin’s MK Dons.

From a player to a manager within the space of a few months, Martin took the wheel of the Buckinghamshire club following the departure of Paul Tisdale. Now in his second season at the helm of the Dons, the former-Norwich City captain will look to establish the club as a League One side.

A side enriched with EFL experience with the likes of Cameron Jerome and Will Grigg, MK Dons will prove to be a tricky task for the Brewers to overcome on home soil.

Former-Burton midfielder, Scott Fraser, will line-up against the side he played for last season. Fraser scored the winning goal for the Dons in a 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle, adding to his tally of ten goals. A threat that the Brewers will have to deal with throughout the game if they’re to continue their form.
