Late brace from youngster Wareham salvages a point for the Cards

Woking had to come from two goals down to earn a hard-earned point at Hayes Lane on Tuesday.

The home side took the lead through a Kory Roberts header on the half hour mark. Charlie Wakefield doubled the Ravens advantage in the second half with the points looking to be going to Bromley. However, a late brace from Jayden Wareham salvaged a point for the Cards.

Woking were without captain Josh Casey due to a shoulder injury, with Craig Ross given the captains arm band.

The first chance fell to the Cards with Max Kretzschmar in a good position, but unfortunately scuffed his shot.  A long throw from the home side bounced awkwardly in the penalty area with Woking failing to clear and the ball just out of the reach of the dangerous Michael Cheek.

Bromley then went close again with a corner that saw Moussa Diarra pop up inside the six-yard box with a downward header that went wide.

After 30 minutes the deadlock was broken when a Frankie Raymond ball was met by Roberts who glanced his header across the goal into the corner of the net.

Bromley went close to adding to their lead when a Byron Webster header went a whisker away.

On the stroke of half time Woking created their main chance of the half when a Ben Gerring downward header was pushed over the bar by Mark Cousins.

The second half opened with Bromley on the front foot. Charlie Wakefield’s shot stung the hands of Ross with Jonny Goddard’s dipping shot just going over the bar moments later.

Then a mazy run from Jack Bridge inside the area concluded with a shot from a tight angle that was pushed away from the Woking Keeper.

On 62 minutes the Ravens doubled their advantage when the ball was given away by the visitors, with Wakefield’s shot outside the area nestling into the corner of the net.

Another set piece from Bromley saw a Roberts header cleared of the line by Ben Gerring. Woking responding with a Spasov header saved by Cousins.

With the three points looking like going to the home side, Woking hit back with two goals inside 14 minutes. Wareham who was brought on at half-time got on the end of a flick on from Diarra, to pull a goal back for the Cards – their first in the league in over a month.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser with a low stooping header from fellow substitute Napa cleared of the line by the excellent Roberts, before a free kick from Chris Bush fell inches wide.

But Woking drew level moments after when a shot was parried by Cousins into the path of Wareham who poked the ball home.

With five minutes of added time shown on the board, both sides pushed for the winner with Duffers low shot which was deflected wide almost winning it for the hosts.
