Rain disappoints as Essex Eagles versus Gloucestershire abandoned without a ball bowled

Essex Eagles and Gloucestershire were made to settle for a point as a third successive game between the two sides was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Umpires Neil Banton and Nick Cook took little hesitation to abandon the fixture at 8.00pm as, after a quick survey of the pitch, they deemed it an unsuitable playing surface.

The two teams have now not competed against each other in a 20-twenty match since August 2017 after this evening’s fixture was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Both fixtures in 2018, at Cheltenham College and Chelmsford, were abandoned due to the weather; Essex won by three wickets the last time the two sides completed a match.

The no-result point, Gloucestershire’s second of the competition, leaves the Cheltenham-based side level on points with Sussex Sharks and two points behind both Kent Spitfires and Middlesex.

On the other hand, the sole point leaves Essex in seventh on three points.
