FCD’s home woes continue in loss to Loons

FRISCO, TX–FC Dallas’s home woes continued on the Fourth of July as this time a comeback fell just short, losing to Minnesota United, 2-1, at Toyota Stadium. FC Dallas are now 1-7-2 at home this season with their only home win in league play coming on March 29th against Sporting Kansas City. Minnesota United, meanwhile, move to within two points of the top of the Western Conference with the win, though teams both ahead and behind them have matches in hand.

Minnesota were the more dominant team in the first half, though Logan Farrington forced a brilliant save from Dayne St. Clair in the 15th minute. The Loons’ attack was rewarded in the 35th minute after Julian Gressel’s free kick connected with Carlos Harvey whose header deflected off a defender and into the net.

The Loons were very dangerous on set pieces on the night. That included long throw-ins. It was a long throw-win in the 58th minute that set up the second goal for the visitors. Michael Boxall’s throw in was dealt with poorly by FC Dallas and it found its way to Anthony Markanich who had a simple header from close range.

FC Dallas did pull one back in the 73rd minute. Petr Musa sent a diagonal ball to Logan Farrington who struck from the corner of the area to make it 2-1. FC Dallas continued the pressure to at least salvage a point. Patrickson struck a shot off the bar and Lucho Acosta had a point-blank shot parried over by St. Claire. That would be the last best chance as Minnesota would hold on for the win.

FC Dallas next travel to LAFC next Saturday at 9:30pm PT (Apple TV) while Minnesota United’s next match is a US Open Cup quarterfinal against Chicago Fire on Tuesday at 7pm CT (CBS Sports Network/Paramount+).
