New England Revolution send Dave Romney, Mark-Anthony Kaye & Ian Harkes to San Jose

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution have traded defender Dave Romney & midfielders Mark-Anthony Kaye & Ian Harkes to the San Jose Earthquakes.

The move will open three senior roster slots for New England.

Early Monday morning, Tom Bogert of GiveMeSport had reported that the New England Revolution had secured a trade that sends defender Dave Romney along with midfielders Mark-Anthony Kaye & Ian Harkes to San Jose Earthquakes for $500,000 GAM and an International Roster Slot.

Sources close to me confirmed that the deal was completed.

The move re-unites the trio with former New England Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena, who acquired all 3 during his tenure from 2019-2023.

He was placed on administrative leave from the New England Revolution in August of 2023 and subsequently resigned just one month later after an investigation determined that he’d made insensitive and inappropriate remarks.

After meeting with commissioner Don Garber in December of 2023, Bruce Arena was re-instated to work in MLS.

He was signed by San Jose Earthquakes as their new Head Coach & Sporting Director in early November.

Dave Romney, 31, was acquired by New England via Trade with Nashville SC in 2023 for $525,000 GAM.

made 77 appearances (6,493 minutes) for New England since his arrival in 2023 where he contributed 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 yellow cards and 1 red card.

He was voted team Defender of the Year by the media for the New England Revolution in 2023 and 2024.

Ian Harkes, 29, was signed by New England in July of 2023. They sent a 2024 MLS SuperDraft pick and $50,000 GAM to D.C. United for their Right of First Refusal to complete the deal.

During his tenure in New England, he made 48 appearances (2,999 minutes) since his arrival where he contributed 3 goals, 1 assist, 7 yellow cards, and 0 red cards.

Mark-Anthony Kaye, 30, was acquired by New England via Trade with Toronto FC in 2023 for midfielder Latif Blessing.

During his tenure in New England, he made 46 appearances (3,111 minutes) for New England since his arrival in 2023 where he contributed 1 goal, 3 assists, 4 yellow cards and 1 red card.

These moves open 3 senior roster slots and add an international roster slot for New England.
