The match began with Charleston Battery starting from the center circle and immediately progressing the ball into Rhode Island FC’s defensive third.
In the 16th minute, RIFC midfielder Marc Ybarra was issued a yellow card.

The second half began with RIFC starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into Charleston’s defensive third.
In the 49th minute, RIFC midfielder Clay Holstad was issued a yellow card.
Just six minutes later, in the 56th minute, Charleston Battery defender #16 Graham Smith was issued a yellow card.

RIFC’s next best chance came entering the 67th minute when Clay Holstad’s effort was met with a comfortable save by goalkeeper #1 Adam Grinwis.
In the 66th minute, RIFC head coach Khano Smith made his first change of the match by replacing midfielder Stephen Turnbull with forward Jojea Kwizera.
Just two minutes later, Charleston Battery head coach made his third change of the match by replacing midfielder #10 Arturo Rodriguez with midfielder #8 Emilio Ycaza.
