Rapids Run Rampant over St. Louis

Colorado Rapids 4-1 St. Louis City SC

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The Rapids enjoyed a six-point week as they romped over St. Louis City SC, 4-1, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It is the Rapids’ fifth win in their last six and it gives them a four-point cushion for fourth place in the Western Conference table over fifth place Portland. St. Louis continues to be one of two teams in the league who remain winless on the road (0-5-5), are stuck in 12th in the West, and eight points behind the playoff line.

The Rapids wasted little time in getting in front as Kevin Cabral and Cole Bassett launched a counter attack ending in the latter providing to the former for an easy finish after just six minutes. Almost five minutes later, thought, St. Louis replied as John Klein headed in a cross from Jayden Reid to level the scoring.

The Rapids regained the lead in the 35th minute on another counter attack. This time, it would be Cabral crossing to Bassett with tons of space for the finish. They would eventually get the insurance goal in the 81st minute as substitutes Calvin Harris and Jonathan Lewis connected where the former sent the cross and the latter struck on the volley. Another sub, Darren Yapi, would add a fourth from an acute angle in the 90th minute to complete the scoring on the night and continue the Rapids’ Renaissance.

The Rapids continue home on Saturday against New York Red Bulls (7:30pm MT, Apple TV) while St. Louis will look to return to winning ways at home against Vancouver on Saturday (7:30pm CT, Apple TV).
