Toulouse Olympique’s Dominique Peyroux discusses hopes for the 2022 season and the French derby

Toulouse Olympique’s Dom Peyroux has discussed his thoughts ahead of the 2022 season.

It is Toulouse’s first game back in the Betfred Super League and they will be hoping to pull off an underdog story this season to avoid immediate relegation back to the Championship.

After losing captain and star man Johnathon Ford due to ‘family and personal reasons’, Peyroux accepted that it is going to be a tough challenge but one that the Toulouse squad are ready to give their all for.

“We’re definitely underdogs but that boosts the hunger doesn’t it. We want to do well but it’ll be our hunger that gets us through our tough games and the team spirt with all the boys in the side.

“I think it’s a good thing [to be underdogs], we want to do well for each other. The togetherness is really important, take London Broncos for example who got promoted and they had the team spirit there and I think it’s the same for us.”

Peyroux went on to describe the difference in quality they are set to face this season and how their pre-season has differed in comparison to their previous preparation for the Championship season last term.

“We’ve definitely trained a lot more and ran a lot more.

“Everything’s just been pretty much bumped up a notch which you can expect and everyone’s just raring to go and putting in the effort in training. Everything’s looking promising for us as a team.”

Finally, the 33-year-old was asked about the games against Catalans Dragons which is going to be widely anticipated across the Super League. The two sides first face off against each other competitively on April 14 which is due to be available to watch on Sky Sports.

Peyroux was excited and recognised that it will be an atmosphere to remember.

“I can’t wait.

“There was a bit of a teaser last week where we just came up short but given everything that’s happened, we was proud of the effort we put forward and it’s only the beginning so we’ll see where we went wrong and build from there.”

With a home tie with Ian Watson’s side followed by a trip to Salford Red Devils, Peyroux and his teammates will be keen to get off to a positive start to the new campaign and avoid a long wait to see their first two points of the season go on the board.
