Following a run of eight games unbeaten across all competitions, Notts County have now failed to pick up a win in their last three games and will aim to snap that streak as Ian Burchnall’s side host Dagenham & Redbridge.
A FA Cup First Round replay defeat to Rochdale and two league games without a win against Eastleigh and Boreham Wood respectively have stopped the Magpies in their speedy tracks as they now sit sixth in the National League.
The winless spell has been met with immediate action however as County announced the loan signing of Wycombe Wanderers winger Connor Parsons until the end of January.
Ian Burchnall wanted to ‘replace that attacking threat in the wide area’ after Aaron Nemane has been confirmed to spend a while on the sidelines for a suspected fractured hand.
“With Aaron Nemane being out for a little while, we’ve moved quickly to try and replace that attacking threat in the wide area,” said Burchnall.
“We’ve been really unfortunate with illness and injury in recent weeks so to get an extra body in is massive. He’s played a lot of minutes at wing back for Wycombe, mostly down the left but, as he’s right footed, he can go either side.”
Ahead of the game, County’s head coach told the media Saturday’s encounter ‘can be a very open game,’ but one which he looks forward to.
“I think they are very attacking, they flood forwards with a lot of numbers and they play good football so it can be a very open game.
“They’ll be wanting to get themselves out of a bad run and it’s on TV so everyone gets a little lift from that and of course, people want to come to Meadow Lane and it’s always a big challenge for them.
“I enjoy the big games and so do our players, I think we’ve shown we have stepped up in them so I’ll really look forward to it this weekend.”
Dagenham & Redbridge come off the back of two straight league defeats against Yeovil Town and Eastleigh respectively as Daryl McMahon’s men also look to bounce back from poor form.
Daggers’ first-team coach Dave Jupp looked ahead to Saturday’s clash which will be live on BT Sport as part of the National League coverage.
“We’ve done a bit of video work on Notts County and prep for the weekend, and looked at a few bits of us from the last couple of games as well.
“You’re going to one of the biggest clubs in the league, if not the biggest. They’ve got huge expectations on them, they play good possession football similar to us in terms of building their way into the game. We’ve got to be on it, because if we’re not they’ll pick us open.”
If Saturday’s results go in favour of the hosts, they could move up as far as third in the table. As for the visitors, a precious three points could boost them into the prized play-off spots.
