Notts County look to extend their seven-game unbeaten run as they host play-off rivals Solihull Moors

Ian Burchnall’s Magpies are on a fine run of form and will look to make it eight games unbeaten in all competitions as they welcome play-off rivals Solihull Moors to Meadow Lane this weekend.

County are in the midst of a two-year absence from the Football League and will be hoping that this year is their year with the Nottinghamshire outfit just four points off an automatic promotion spot.

If Saturday’s results go in Burchnall’s favour, the Magpies could move up to fourth place in the table and just one point adrift an automatic promotion spot. However, that points gap to second place is likely to increase as Grimsby Town play host to relegation-bound Aldershot Town.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Notts County manager Ian Burchnall told the media his squad is in ‘good shape’ bar a few absentees.

“Sam [Slocombe] is training well. We lost three or four players in the space of a week, and it really hurt us during that period. But everybody is back, and fit.”

“Training today was fantastic, with really good competition. You can see everyone is hungry to play.

“You feel like if one or two players are missing, one or two are coming in, the quality is not affected. That’s how it is. It’s certainly far less stressful for me when it comes to thinking about the possibilities if someone is in or out, and then who we’ve got to replace them.”

As for the visitors, Jordan Cranston will serve the second game of a three-match suspension but are boosted with the return of Kyle Storer and Ryan Barnett. Both players are back in training after missing last weekend’s visit to Wigan Athletic through illness.

Solihull, currently enjoying an eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, most recently forced an FA Cup replay against League One outfit Wigan Athletic.

This week, the Moors picked up both National League awards for Manager and Player of the Month as ex-County boss Neal Ardley and Ryan Boot were rewarded for their impressive form.
