Richard Marshall was a big influence in Harvey Livett choosing Salford, with other Super League clubs interested.
The back rower began his Super League career at the Warrington Wolves in 2017, but during his time at the club he was unable to maintain a spot in the first team only making 47 appearances. He was sent out on loan to Hull Kingstone Rovers in the previous two seasons for much needed game time.
When Harvey Livett had the opportunity to work with his former youth coach, he snatched at the chance for a new beginning. “Salford came in for me, and they are only 15 minutes away from where I live in Warrington so it was a no brainer. They have a young squad there, and there are big things happening at the club, reaching two finals in the past two years, so that attracted me as well”.
After signing a two-year deal at Salford he has joined up with his new coach for the second time. “I worked with Richard when I was down at Warrington in my youth days, so I know what he was like and what his pathways are. Obviously, he is now at Salford after doing great things with St Helens in the previous two seasons. He’s been really good. He is an honest coach and you can have a good chat with him, and he will tell you what you need to work on and what you are doing well at that time. It is a change for me with a new coach but I am really enjoying working under him.”
The 2021 season is weeks away and Harvey is confident that his new side can continue their good form, from previous seasons. “We are focusing on our defence at the minute as we are a big side. We have a good team this season, I think the likes of Danny Addy coming in with our attack as well, has been good. We have put lots of effort in training and had a good preseason, everyone has bought into it. I think we are going to have a really good season”.
On the back of three years with inconsistent game time, maintaining a spot in the back row is the target for the 24-year-old. “My aim is to mainly secure that back row spot and try to get as many games as possible, and to get a bit of form going into the season. That is what I have lacked over the last few years is getting that form and securing that spot, so that is my main goal”.
