Colchester search for their first win of 2021 as they host Scunthorpe

Colchester play their third game in seven days and will look to overcome a Scunthorpe side who will be high on confidence after two successive league wins.

The U’s remain without a win in eight as they welcome Scunthorpe to the Colchester Community Stadium. While the home side will be hoping for a win, manager Steve Ball will also be on the lookout for goals, with his side only managing one goal in their last five games.

The hosts will be hoping to up their conversion rate, as in recent games they have had more than enough shots but have failed to really test opposition keepers.

In Colchester’s last game they drew 0-0 with Stevenage, with the U’s having 18 shots on goal, however, only three found the target, a horrible conversion rate that Ball will be concerned about.

The visitors have had a great turn in form as of late, with two comfortable home wins in their previous two matches as they overcame both Grimsby and Port Vale. Their away form hasn’t been the best however, with only one win in the last five away games.

Scunthorpe will be confident that they can take all three points against Colchester, especially with forwards Ryan Loft and Abo Eisa being in such good form recently. With five goals between them in their last two games, both forwards are in sharp form and will be eager to add to their goal tally against a struggling Colchester side.

Colchester manager Steve Ball spoke ahead of the game on Friday and it was clear to see he knows how important this game will be for his side:

“It’s a perfect scenario playing on a Friday night, I’m sure the players will enjoy it. We all want and need a massive performance and three points.”

Those tuning in on Friday night can expect a close affair in a match that is huge to both teams. A win for Colchester could really boost their confidence as well as pushing the side back up the table, a win for the away side is also huge as three wins in a row would drag Scunthorpe well and truly out of relegation contention.
