Wycombe still in search of their first points as they face Millwall at Adams Park

Wycombe have had a tough start to life in the Championship as they remain without a point in four games and will be looking to get their hand on their first points against Reading on Saturday afternoon.

Four games into their Championship season, the Buckinghamshire club haven’t even scored a goal never mind clocked up a point.

Defeats to Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Swansea City and Luton Town mean only the luckless Sheffield Wednesday, who started the season on minus 12 are propping the Chairboys up.

The fightback has to start somewhere and a home game with Millwall who have won just one game out of four seems like a good opportunity for Gareth Ainsworth’s men to try and get points on the board.

History provides a cause for optimism as the sides stand at seven wins each with four draws in the series. Even with home advantage, the historical match up is a 3-3 tie.

This will be their first league meeting since 2010, when Wycombe completed a double against Millwall.

Two former teammates at Cambridge United, Millwall’s Gary Rowett and Wycombe’s Gareth Ainsworth go head to head on Saturday at Adams Park.

Wycombe’s injuries and suspensions may be on the mend according to the club website.

Former Millwall forward Adebayo Akinfenwa has been sidelined so far following a knee operation and may be available.

Other absentees such as Dominic Gape, Uche Ikpeazu, Ryan Tafazolli and Alex Pattison could also be in contention.

Another former Lion Jason McCarthy could make his 100th appearance for the club five years to the day since he made his first appearance for Wycombe and Fred Onyedinma who played 120 games for Millwall between 2014 and 2019 should be on the teamsheet.

Daryl Horgan is available after he played for the Republic of Ireland in midweek.

One Wanderers loan player Frank Fielding may suit up for the South East London club and Millwall will be without Troy Parrott and Billy Mitchell.

Millwall are reportedly also making a late move to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Kenneth Zohore, having failed to land Derby County striker Jack Marriott.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Shane Ferguson both returned from international duty on Thursday.
