Christchurch scored on the hour mark when Max Wilcock found the net. Their visitors equalised but the Hurn Bridge side won the subsequent penalty shoot out 6-5
In the same part of the world, Wimborne Town beat Melksham Town 5-4 on penalties.
Christchurch were not the only Step 5 club to knock out Step Two opposition. Sheppey United beat Welling United 2-0.
Barking (20th campaign), Larkhall Athletic (15th), Bedfont Sports (10th), Cray Valley Paper Mills (8th), Ilkeston Town and Longridge Town (both 2nd campaign).
Longridge Town, a Preston side, won 2-3 at Stalybridge Celtic.
The two lowest ranked clubs in the second round Risborough Rangers and Saltash did not proceed. Saltash lost 3-1 at home to Southpampton based side Sholing and Chichester disposed of Risborough 2-1 in front of 343 people.
In the battle between two sides who had not even reached this round before, Ilkeston Town beat Hanley 4-1. Now Martin Carruthers’ side find themselves in unheralded heights with a cup run longer than the league they play in, the Northern Premier League Division One South East.
Perhaps the anticipation is highest in the market village of St Mary Cray. Both Cray Wanderers and Cray Valley Paper Mills stormed through the last round with eleven goals between them in two away wins.
Having defeated Moneyfields 6-2, Cray Wanderers become out adopted side in our #moneyfieldstowembley series. If that wasn’t of interest enough, we also covered Paper Mills who were surprising 5-1 winners at Harrow Borough and are now the FA Cup’s top scorers with 14 goals.
Paper Mills goalkeeping coach Craig Gibson gave Prost International his thoughts about the upcoming draw:
“Who would we like in the FA cup draw?
Personally I would like anyone at home and a good crowd, a cup tie over 90 minutes is always winnable.
All clubs will now have secret aspirations to go just those two more steps and get in the hat with League One and Two clubs and a potential big draw so of course it can be exciting.
“Let’s be honest we are unlikely to win the FA Cup and the league is what we are focused on winning however that does not detract from wanting to make headlines for the club.
Players only get maybe 10-15 attempts during their career in the FA Cup so they should make every effort to write their own little bit of history.”
The media however would focus on a Cray Twins derby liek they have never focued on football in this corner of London before should Paper Mills meet Wanderers in one of the FA Cup’s rarer derbies.
Because of regionalisation, the chances of some mouthwatering local derbies is high in the 3rd Qualification Round in the 40 ties that will be drawn and announced at 1pm on Monday.
No new sides will enter at this next stage, and the 40 winners will join 24 new sides in the Fourth Qualification Round.
So there may not be any big fish entering the river this time round, but all 80 sides are one win away from a tilt at a side from as high up as the National League.
The 3rd Round ties will be played on Tuesday October 13th.
