Diego Simeone has signed a new contract at Atletico Madrid until 2022.
The 48-year-old Argentine has been at the helm since 2011 and has claimed seven trophies in his time as manager of the club he made 134 league appearances for across two separate spells.
Simeone has often been touted for a move to the Premier League, but the new deal looks to have silenced those rumours for now.
Under the Argentine’s guidance, Atletico have claimed a La Liga title in 2014, one Copa del Rey victory in 2012-13, a Supercopa de Espana in 2014, a pair of Europa League triumphs in 2012 and 2018 and a couple of UEFA Super Cup titles in 2012 and 2018.
Atletico have also been the runner-up in two Champions League finals in 2014 and 2016. Both times they lost to rivals Real Madrid.
Los Colchoneros currently sit third in La Liga, seven points behind leaders Barcelona and one point behind Real Madrid.
