Chelsea are facing disciplinary proceedings after alleged racist behaviour from their fans during a Europa League clash against MOL Vidi in December.

UEFA announced on Tuesday morning that they have opened the proceedings based upon “the report submitted by the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector commissioned to conduct an investigation”.

Chelsea Chairman Bruce Beck condemned the actions, calling those involved “a few mindless individuals at some of our recent matches”. He also added that Chelsea “will not rest until we have eliminated all forms of discrimination from the club.”

The incident in question occurred at the Groupama Arena in Budapest and it was alleged a section of Blues supporters sang a derogatory song about Tottenham which featured anti-Semitic language.

UEFA appointed a disciplinary inspector based upon a lack of evidence from officials at the game and said “disciplinary proceedings have been instigated” and a charge of “racist behaviour” will be judged on February 28.

Chelsea resume their Europa League campaign when they take on Swedish club Malmo in the Round of 32 on February 14.
