There is further anecdotal evidence that the US soccer’s international expansion curve continue to rise.
On two occasions in the past week, we here at Prost Amerika have been asked to contribute to an increasing awareness and interest in Major League Soccer and the Sounders from media outlets in Europe.
Our editor, Steve Clare, is bringing English readers up to speed with a regular MLS 101 series in SHOOT! Magazine, England’s oldest surviving football magazine, designed to educate them on the league beyond David Beckham and Thierry Henry.
Part 3 continued taking readers through the unusual team names in MLS and covered the 60,000 plus crowd at the Cascadian derby.
Last week radio station Deutschland Radio, German equivalent of PBS, produced a piece on the Sounders which involved clips from Christian Tiffert and Mike Gspurning, speaking about their lives in Seattle and the Sounders.
In Jürgen Kalwa’s article, Christian Tiffert says that the move to the USA was ‘eine sehr, sehr gute Entscheidung für mich’, in English ‘a very very good decision for me.”
Gspurning, who is described as one of the league’s top goalkeepers, speaks about the quality of player in the league citing both Eddie Johnson and Fredy Montero as proof, as well as Tiffert himself.
The audio contains English language clips of Ross Fletcher’s commentary of the match against Portland interspersed with the German narrative.
