The Portland Timbers needed to answer for last weekend’s loss to San Diego in the last regular season match. The rout on top of a string of inconsistent performances had the team’s confidence rattled. The last three points dropped at home, got them relegated to play the wild card game against Salt Lake City, who was able to squeeze into the last spot to the playoff race. Portland was rattled and nervous, and the fans still were fully on board doing their part to push the team onwards, but some empty seats showed the faith wasn’t generally shared.
The team needed something special to give to make Portland believe, and boy did they come through. The Felipe Mora of the big games came back with a Brace, and central defender Kamal Miller rounded the 3-1 win they so much needed.
Now officially in the playoffs, Portland will test their lessons learned again with top of the West, San Diego FC, in a best two-out-of-three saga starting on Sunday, October 26.
