Seawolves hold off league-leading Hounds

Seattle Seawolves 28-22 Chicago Hounds

TUKWILA, WA–On Thursday, NFL greats Marshawn Lynch and Marcus Peters joined the ownership group of the Seattle Seawolves. The next night, the Seawolves got a massive win as they look to escape the Western Conference cellar by defeating the league-leading Chicago Hounds, 28-22, at Starfire Stadium. It is their second win in three matches after opening 1-4-0.

An 8-8 tie was broken in the 37th minute as Riekert Hattingh scored a try and Rod Iona kicked the conversion to put the Seawolves up 15-8. Five minutes into the second half, the Hounds would be reduced to 14 for 20 minutes as Tim Swiel was sent off for a dangerous tackle to the head. It’s the third sending off this season for the Hounds.

Iona added a penalty goal before the Hounds cut the deficit to 18-15 after Lucas Rumbell added a try and Chris Hilsenbeck a conversion. However, Lauina Futi and Iona restored the 10-point lead for Seattle. The Hounds added a late try and conversion three minutes from time, but the Seawolves held on and ended the Hounds’ six-match winning streak.

The Seawolves have a midweek match on Wednesday at Anthem RFC at 4:30pm PT (KZJO/ESPN+) The Hounds travel West yet again next Saturday to take on Utah Warriors at 8pm CT (WPWR/ESPN+).
