San Diego FC is set to make MLS history on Saturday night against St. Louis City SC, becoming the first team to host a home game in San Diego.

Major League Soccer is officially in San Diego.

The newly founded San Diego FC will make their MLS home debut on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PST against the St. Louis City at Snapdragon Stadium. Last Sunday, SDFC won their MLS debut 2-0 on the road against the defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. Midfielder Anders Dreyer scored both of their goals.

St. Louis began their season with a 0-0 draw from last Saturday’s home game against the Colorado Rapids at Energizer Park. This will be the first time either team has matched up against each other in league history.

SDFC head coach Mikey Varas. Varas was the assistant coach for FC Dallas from 2019-2021 and the United States men’s national team from 2023-2024. He also briefly served as the interim coach for the US national team in 2024. Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, a winger for the Mexico national team, is the most notable name on the roster. Lozano has experience playing in the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In only their second year, St. Louis had a record of 8-13-13 in the 2024 season, where they placed 12th in the Western Conference and 24th overall. Their interim head coach is John Hackworth, taking the place of former head coach Bradley Carnell after he was let go.

St. Louis is led by two-time MLS All-Star goalkeeper Roman Bürki and forward Cedric Teuchert. Bürki had 102 saves, and Teuchert had a team-leading seven goals last season.

Snapdragon Stadium is expected to have a record-breaking attendance on Saturday night given how historic Saturday night’s game will be for San Diego sports. SDFC will join the San Diego Wave of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as the second professional sports team to host home games at Snapdragon Stadium. SDFC is now the 30th MLS team and is making its inaugural season this year.

SDFC has a long list of high-profile investors with a stake in ownership, including British billionaire Sir Mohamed Mansour, the Sycuan band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress and producer Issa Rae, San Diego Padres All-Star Manny Machado and more.
