Leclerc focused on tyre management issues after pole position in Spain

Charles Leclerc has said his pole position may mean nothing if Ferrari cannot resolve its tyre wear issues tomorrow.

Charles Leclerc stormed to pole position at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after leading all three practice sessions.

The Monegasque was certainly aided by an issue for Max Verstappen, who faced a loss of power at the end of Q3, denying him the opportunity to challenge the Ferraris.

But the championship leader has remained cautious, saying that Red Bull’s advantage in tyre wear could cost them a race win in Spain.

Speaking in the post-qualifying interviews to Naomi Schiff, Leclerc said:

“I am in a strong position to start the race but we’ve been struggling with tyres in the last few races compared to Red Bull.

“Max is just behind and if we don’t manage those tyres well we will lose that win.

“We need to get on top of it and do a good job tomorrow with tyre management.”

Ferrari will start first and third with Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz set to start on the second row of the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix.
