Chelsea FC Women made it three WSL Championship title wins in a row after a dramatic final day.

Their nearest rivals Arsenal beat West Ham 2-0, but it wasn’t enough to pip Chelsea to their sixth Championship  after a 4-2 comeback win over Manchester United.

A brace from Australian Sam Kerr ensured Chelsea completed another major trophy on what has been a superb season for the West London side.

So many players have really impressed for the Champions, but one name sticks out above everybody else.

Kerr was promised silverware when she signed for Chelsea back in 2020. This will be the sixth major trophy for the 28-year-old Australian international in the space of two years.

Her brace at the weekend took her tally of goals to 20 in 2021-22, enough to secure her the coveted Golden Boot for the second year in a row.

Kerr arrived in England after breaking records in the United States and Australia. After making her international debut at just 15, she has now moved on to captain her country.

She found life difficult at the start of her career in England, having to wait seven games before finally hitting the back of the net. Since then she has netted 42 times for Chelsea in 46 appearances and is a striker feared around the world.

Chelsea are the seventh side she has played for with two spells at Perth Glory in 2008-11 and 2014-19, where she made 71 appearances in her native country with Glory and scored 57 goals.

Kerr has also worn the shirt of Sydney FC between 2012-14 with 13 goals from 24 appearances. The striker had a successful season with Western New York Flash in 2013-14 with 41 goals and Chicago Red Stars back in 2018-19 with 43 goals from 35 appearances.

It isn’t solely at club level where Kerr has excelled. On the international stage she has made 110 appearances in the Australian shirt, scoring 59 goals in the process.

Not bad for a lady who started life playing Australian rules football as a youngster and is now considered to be a leading light in Australian sport.

Without question. Kerr is one of her nation’s biggest sporting stars, and in the wake of tennis star Ash Barty’s surprise retirement, she has now taken the title of Australia’s leading female athlete.
