Hull Kingston Rovers announce 2022 squad numbers!

With Hull KR announcing their 2022 squad numbers, we take a look at each player named in the first team for Tony Smith’s men this season.

1 – Lachlan Coote

Rovers’ biggest signing in years, three-peat champion Coote is a real statement of intent by the reds, and the Scottish international will provide composure and class out the back and will likely take the kicking tee as well which could take the reds to the next level.

Through no fault of his own, Crooks found himself playing in multiple positions which led to an inconsistent year that included 10 tries. Crooks will be hoping injury’s don’t repeat and the winger can stay on the edges to add to his impressive record for KR.

3 – Brad Takairangi

Taka showed glimpses of brilliance in 2021 but moved around a lot due to injury’s and never settled in one role like we hoped. Squad numbers don’t mean much, but with Taka named in the centre spot, let’s hope he can nail down a position and kicks on in 2022.

4 – Shaun Kenny-Dowall

The Rovers skipper was sensational last season and showed fantastic leadership skills, especially when times got tough. An ever-present for the Robins in two seasons, the former Kiwi’s work around the ruck, metres in attack and offloads will be key in 2022,

5 – Ryan Hall

One of Super Leagues greatest ever wingers scored 16 tries in red and white last season and his yardage showed what Rovers have been missing for so long. Penning an extension till 2023, the experienced winger will lead from the front alongside partner SKD.

England international and man of steel nominee Abdull was brilliant in 2021. His kicking game and management of time has improved under Tony Smith and as the lead halfback, Abdull will be our playmaker once again as he aims to impress England boss Shaun Wane.

8 – Albert Vete

Form and injury’s frustrated the big man in 2021. Near the line, Vete will be a real asset for the Reds and after a big pre-season, the loveable character will be aiming for more minutes in 2022 and bulldoze defences with his strength and offload game.

Parcell delivered some fantastic displays in 2021 and is a constant threat in attack and defence – the partnership with Litten is one of the best in SL and if Parcell can stay fit, expect more of the same from the Aussie in 2022.

10 – George King

Rovers’ best forward last season, the former Wire man produced his best season to date in 2021 and his hard yards and engine in the middle is vital to everything KR do, after signing a deal until the end of 2025, King will be a starter once again for KR this year and will lead from the front as he aims to nail down a spot in  the Ireland world cup squad.

11 – Dean Hadley

Hadley saw his season cut short due to a shoulder problem which saw the former FC man put his hand up to help the team when the ever-growing injury crisis hit but on his day can be a real threat with his handling skills and line-running. Hadley is a player that goes under the radar who does all the hard stuff, let’s hope we see more of him in 2022.

12 – Kane Linnett

Mr Consistent, 13 tries and a Super League Dream Team appearance in 2021 was his reward for a fantastic year. His form and attitude are remarkable and the former NRL winner will once again be a key asset for Smiths men.

13 – Matty Storton

Unknown when signing from Bradford, the workhorse has become a real find for the Robins. Powerful, skilful and aggressive, he is everything a forward should be. His hard work has landed him a starting shirt number this year and has no intentions of losing it.

14 – Jez Litten

The best is yet to come from our live wire hooker. Litten and Parcell were vital last season and the Hull born dummy-half will be expected to carry on from 2021 as he develops into one of the reds key figures as he enters his third year in East Hull.

A fantastic 2021 saw Johnson become a real fans favourite. A tough utility forward who puts his body on the line each time he steps out on the pitch. Luis will be a key figure in the pack this season with the hope to represent Jamaica in next years World Cup.

16 – Korbin Sims

The Fijian forward first year didn’t go exactly to plan and he knows that better than anyone. Sims on his day can be a real handful and the enforcer will be looking to revamp his Rovers career and will be hoping to produce his best in 2022 for club and country.

17 – Elliot Minchella

A cruel ACL injury saw Minchella feature only twice in 2021. Tony Smith sees the forward as a “new signing” – let’s hope 2022 can be the year Elliot returns and kicks on from his standout year in 2020, he will be raring to go come February.

18 – Jimmy Keinhorst

His work ethic and will to play wherever earned Jimmy a new deal in East Hull. The utility man was expected to leave Rovers last season, but his versatility and experience will once again be crucial in a busy campaign.

19 – Will Dagger

The longest-serving player at the club after Lawler’s departure. Dagger will be working alongside Coote and the outside backs once again in 2022, the exciting full-back will provide cover in multiply positions after penning a two-year extension.

20 – Mikey Lewis

The England knights star signed a new deal until the end of 2025 recently and is the future of HKR. Lewis is tipped to do great things in the game. 22’ will see his expectation level’s rise as the mercurial half aims to add more strings to his bow.

21-  Rowan Milnes
The composed half showed pieces of brilliance last year, an individual try against FC the highlight. Alongside Lewis and Abdull, RM will be hoping to continue with his development with time on his side and the ability to play in a number of roles.

22 – Will Maher

Maher impressed Smith in 21’ featuring frequently for the Reds which earned him a year extension. If Will can lay the platform for the spine by winning his collisions and the floor, it will put Rovers in a fantastic attacking position in the final third.

23 – Ethan Ryan

An injury-hit 2021 cut short a promising season for the former Bradford winger. After undergoing two operations on his wrists, the speedster will be aiming for a bigger and brighter 2022 as he looks to finally get a full season under his belt for KR.

24 – Sam Wood

Signing initially on a one-year deal, utility player Wood has been tipped to do great things by former boss Ian Watson, and will be hoping for a big pre-season to nail down a starting shirt come February.

25 – Greg Richards

Richards adds much-needed grunt and experience in the Rovers pack this year. At 26, the Grand Final winner has plenty left in the tank and will hope to take his chance in his third stint in Super League.

The towering forward-swept up at Dewsbury’s awards night in 21’ after a standout season which saw the Robins pay a fee for his services – Garrett is definitely one to watch this season and will hope to take his game to the next level under Smith.

27 – Frankie Halton

New boy Halton joins the Robins from Featherstone Rovers. The Irish international will be gunning to make the step up into Super League and his versatility in the pack could prove vital for the Reds as Halton hopes to represent Ireland in next years World Cup.

28 – Will Tate

After featuring off the bench in the heroic playoff victory in Warrington and our Semi-final defeat in France, Tate will be looking to challenge the rest of the outside-backs to nail down a starting spot.

29 – Phoenix Laula-Togaga’e

The agile, raw speedster joined the Robins midway through 21’ before heading back to
Keighley on loan whilst still training with the Reds. Laulu-Togaga’e is just starting out in the game, and will be using 2022 to gain as much valuable game time wherever he can take it.

30 – Charlie Cavanaugh

Hooker Cavanaugh enters his third season in the first-team fold. CC will be working with Parcell and Litten as he sets out to lead the reserves from dummy-half and work his way into the first team lineup within the next few seasons.

31 – Connor Moore

Dynamic front-row Moore impressed both academy coach Jason Netherton and Tony Smith last year, resulting in the youngster being handed the 31 shirt this year. Moore is one for the future and like Okoro, will benefit from the reserve system returning.

32 – Daniel Okoro

Prop forward Okoro gets the 32 shirt in 2022 after progressing into the first team. The no-nonsense front-rower will be looking for regular game time as he develops working alongside the rest of the Rovers pack.

33 – Max Kirkbright

Up and coming outside-back Max Kirkbright has earned his call up to the first team after impressing for our academy’s side – expect Max to feature heavily for the reserves in 2022 as he starts his journey Clapping hands sign.
