Northwood FC to host international friendly between Cornwall and Cascadia

Northwood FC are to reopen their gates on May 22 as they host an international challenge match between Cascadia and Kernow. Kick off is 3pm.

Cascadia represent the bio-region that encompasses Oregon and Washington State in the USA’a Pacific Northwest corner, together with British Columbia, Canada’s most westerly province. The side is sponsored by Prost Soccer, which encompasses both this site and www.prostamerika.com, our North American site.

Kernow represent the county of Cornwall, an area with a distinct Celtic identity and language in England’s far south west corner.

The venue will be the Fenton Engineering Stadium, which lies on the arboreally named Chestnut Avenue, home to the Isthmian League club. The ground itself is surrounded by trees and neatly secluded from its suburban Middlesex environment. It lies about 3/4 of a mile from Northwood Hills tube on the Metropolitan Line.

It has a 3,075 capacity of which 932 places are covered and an excellent clubhouse with catering and spacious seating.

Northwood FC were delighted to be asked to host the game. Club secretary Alan Evans said:

“Having not staged a game at the Fenton Engineering Stadium for nearly seven months, the club is looking forward to welcoming both Cascadia and their guests from Cornwall for this International Challenge match.

“The clubhouse will be open at last and we hope plenty of people will want to see a live game just before the official end of the season.”

Cascadia have not played since beating Darfur 8-1 at French Field Kent WA in 2019 but last played with their Europe based squad in, a 6-3 win against the Chagos Islands in May 2019.

Since then, the proposed ConIFA World Cup had to be postponed due to COVID so neither side has had many opportunities to play.

Kernow have played just four games wining them all while Cascadia finished sixth in the last ConIFA World Cup before the cancelation.

James Nichols is Cascadia’s head coach. He said:

“I am delighted to get back to competitive action in what will be a big test against Kernow.

“Our lads won’t have met since we played against the Chagos Islands two years ago and we know that the game at Northwood will be a fantastic barometer of where we currently are.”
