The 23-year-old has been nothing but a revelation at the Stags and his contributions to a well-improved side in the second half of the season shows why he will be one of Mansfield Town’s most important players next season.
Receiving 336 votes from the Stags faithful, the midfielder has been one of the first names on the team sheet all season long.
Joining from Charlton Athletic initially on loan in the summer, the number 32 has now made his stay in Nottinghamshire permanent for the next two-and-a-half years.
His first game for the Amber and Blues came in the sixth game of the League Two season at home against Bradford City.
It could not have gone any worse for the London-born player. The Stags were humiliated by the Bantams going onto lose 3-1 with Lapslie getting a second yellow card in the 78th minute resulting in a red card and a one-match ban.
The midfielder’s first goal for Mansfield Town came in a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers. Richard Cooper’s side were on course to beating the Wanderers in their own backyard but Antoni Sarcevic put a stop to those dreams with a 90th-minute equaliser.
He was able to score the winner in the first round of the FA Cup against Sunderland in the game after. His 49th-minute strike saw the Nottinghamshire club make it through to the second round.
The amber and blues were able to make it as far as the third round where they were beaten by Cheltenham Town 2-1 after extra time.
Lapslie made it three goals on the bounce as his goal in the fifth minute against Forest Green was crucial as the Stags went onto win their first league game under Nigel Clough.
The midfielder then went on a three-game drought without a goal but was influential once more as Mansfield Town came back against Crawley Town at the One Call Stadium to draw 3-3 with the Red Devils.
Up until the end of January, the Nottinghamshire club were in fine form winning five consecutive games and being one of the most in-form sides in League Two at the time.
Numerous postponements and games being cancelled meant Clough’s side lost that magical match sharpness as they went without a match for two weeks.
Walsall away at the Banks Stadium is where disaster struck for Lapslie as the midfielder went down injured after only 12 minutes.
He was carrying a hamstring injury and minute after minute in the game against the Saddlers the situation got worse for the starman.
Lapslie was then sidelined for over a month and only was only on the field of play for the last 17 minutes in the 3-1 victory against Cheltenham Town at the One Call Stadium.
His first game back was against Tranmere Rovers where he featured for 45 minutes and was looking to gain his dazzling match sharpness which saw him as one of the brightest lights for the Stags before his injury.
Three goals in three games at the back end of the season sees the midfielder slowly but surely returning back to his best.
With nine goals and two assists in 31 appearances for the amber and blues this season, Lapslie has been a fantastic performer and his contributions will be key next season.
The midfielder has been rewarded with a two-and-a-half year deal and everyone that supporters the club and/or watches the matches can see the bags of potential he has.
A positive campaign is what everyone is hoping for from the Stags next season, and if the 23-year-old can continue to perform like he did this season, Mansfield Town could see themselves finish near the top end of the table.
