Errol Spence Jr in “serious condition” after car crash

Unified world champion Errol Spence Jr was seriously injured following a car crash in his home city of Dallas, Texas.

Police say the welterweight was not wearing a seat-belt when his Ferrari rolled over. Spence was reportedly “ejected” from his car after it flipped multiple times.

The 29-year-old was taken to Dallas hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning and placed into the intensive care unit.

Tim Smith, an employee of Spence’s promotional company PBC, has revealed his injuries are not considered “life threatening” but remains in a serious condition.

According to the police, the white Ferrari was going at a high rate of speed before the crash occurred. The police also confirmed the incident only involved one vehicle.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

Spence is currently undefeated in the professional ranks, with his last outing a win against Shawn Porter on September 28 to add the WBC belt to his IBF title. The former U.S Olympian rose to prominence after his eleventh round stoppage of Kell Brook in Sheffield two years ago.
